  1. My thoughts at around 6:30-7:00, clear again though 🙂
  2. Some really nice detail there, despite the conditions you describe.
  3. Just watched the action on GONG, a very impressive Prom. Like you said over very quickly, quite often the case with these moments.
  4. Not much chance today, but the solar equipment is coming to work tomorrow
  5. just 2 more to go then 🙂 🙂 🙂 Not seen the Holy Grail for years
  6. Lovely catch, looks an excellent spot for a night under the stars.
  7. I removed and cleaned my filter last summer, wasn't quite as bad as yours. no problems at all
  8. Counted 12 when i did it, on a decent Moon free night. A couple more than i expected to be honest.
  9. I also tried a 0iii filter once as well, but the continuum is the one for sure.
  10. I love doing it, such a different discipline from the usual astronomy. When decided to return to astronomy in 2009, i found the long Summer months somewhat frustrating. That all changed after buying some Baader Solar film. I like the dynamic aspect of it especially, just like the imaging Jupiter, no two days are the same. Apart from during the "Solar Minimum", which was pretty uninspiring to say the least 🙂 If the conditions allow i would use a Barlow for some close ups of those spot regions. As for a Solar continuum filter a green No64 or 58, is a very cheap alternative and almost as good in my opinion.
  11. Really nice Neil, some fine detail visible in the Penumbra and some decent Faculae near the limb.
  12. Hi, that is a superb sounding scope, with a very large aperture. I am guessing probably just out of focus. What focal length (size) eye piece are you using?
  13. Hi welcome to SGL from Pete in Bedfordshire 🙂
  14. Hi welcome to SGL from Pete in Bedfordshire 🙂
  15. My EQ5 was very reliable, dragged in and out of the car 100s of times for Solar imaging sessions. Mostly at work or in the winter from mobile spots where i could still see the Sun. It has been replaced by a lighter, hopefully equally reliable EQ3-2 for the same purpose
  16. Venus showing a nice phase from around 8am on Saturday morning. C9.25, Asi290mm, Astronomik 807 filter. Tried a few UV imaging runs as well, which while a still playing with them there is not much to see i don't think.
  17. I would have the same feelings for most deciduous trees, but these conifers do not offer as much as you might think to the wildlife. Obviously the birds might disagree 🙂 I think the 2 trees in front of where the conifers were will certainly enjoy their new found freedom. My local RSPB lodge has been removing huge amounts of coniferous trees to encourage the growth of more wildlife friendly trees that allow plants to grow under their shade.
  18. Trust me, you are definitely an imager. There is some really detail in the Penumbra on both those spots, very nice!
  19. The south from my garden has been pretty poor for some years. As any regular long time followers of my planetary imaging sessions will know the low altitude of the planets has been very tricky to capture due to the rows of nearby conifers. I had on average from the very bottom of the garden a 60 minute window for them, unfortunately this was when they were on their way down as well. This week the view has somewhat improved, still not great but much better! Imaging from behind the willow (on the right) is where i had the only decent view. Now when i set at the bottom of the garden i have a pretty decent view as the planets are at their highest point in the sky. This will also help the Solar imaging sessions, maybe the remaining conifers might go at some as well 🙂
  20. It does look a lot like previous images of Starlink launches i have seen, before they have completely separated out.
  21. Terrific set up, that's a fabulous looking H/A disc on the screen as well.
  22. P.S might get more responses if this is moved to the Solar Imaging section
