The hot weather brought some better seeing on 6th August. Here is an image of Jupiter showing the GRS region well and an IR luminence colour image fo Saturn. If only they were a bit higher in the sky. Peter

An excellent image, lots of detail Looking forward to imaging Mars as it gets higher in the sky. Peter

Jupiter with Fullerscope - decent seeing

An excellent image from the UK this year. Well done. Better than I have managed with my C14! Peter -
Thinking again about the red hue, are you using an IR/UV cut filter with your colour camera? if not you can get this issue. Peter

Jupiter and Saturn taken with half a C11!

Great results considering the problems. Peter -
Some good detail, just needs a tweak with colour balance, looks too red to me. It would also help with contrast of surface features as well. Polar cap should be bright white. I took the liberty of having a tweak, see attached image. Peter

Saturn & Jupiter last night SkyMax 180Pro
astroman001 replied to Chrb1985's topic in Imaging - Planetary
The planets should look yellow at low altitude due to scattering of blue. How did you correct the colour? Saturn looks blue which is strange. Jupiter is not far off, have you tried boosting saturation in photoshop or Gimp? Do you have the white balance set to auto on your colour cam, assuming this is taken with a colour cam. Normally I colour correct in Photoshop. Go to Levels, blue channel and move the RH slider left until the white areas look about right. That's all you should have to do. Peter -
Great work Darryl. Is the main improvement the sensitivity so you can get higher frame rates and lower gain? Looking forward to getting one when the planets rise a bit higher from the UK. Peter

Superb result. One of the best I've seen from the UK this year, great detail and colour - well done. Peter

Excellent result, well done. Peter

Seeing was poor, lots of jetstream turbulence distorting the disk, but the software did a great job again teasing out some detail. NEB particularly active at this longitude. Peter

first light with GSO 8" CC (Jupiter and Saturn)

Great first light. Just FYI, I would say that the scope needs collimating. If you note, the moon and shadow look like Micky Mouse. Seeing can have a big effect, but I would find a nice 2nd mag star and check collimation. Best to do it with the camera if possible. Peter -
Hi Mike, I take 8 x 2 min videos over a 20 min period. Process each one through Autostakkert and Registax to sort, stack and sharpen them. I then use WinJUPOS to measure each of the best images from the data set above and then derotate them. Then I take the derotated image which is smoother andbetter signal/noise because it is a combo of 10 images and process in Photoshop Bit of a long winded routine. Peter

A mid field view of Comet Neowise from last night. Guided DSLR stack of 25 x 30 sec at ISO 1600 85mm focal length. Struggled with light pollution gradients low down in the NW for me. Peter

Fantastic results, interesting to see the changes over a few days Peter -
Image of Jupiter from 19th July. A bright outburst near the CM on the SEB was the most prominent feature. Dark festoons extending into the EZ from SEB. This image was from only two runs before clouds came over. Seeing poor but detail visible through fast streaming and flag-like oscillations. Usual for UK!

Some good detail there. My images looked the same yellow tint to yours before correction. With Jupiter so low down, a lot of blue is scattered by the atmosphere so the planet looks yellow. Correct this either with the yellow/blue slider in colour balance or by boosting blue channel in levels until the zones look whitish. Peter

Hi Craig, yes the 224MC is very good in the IR. I used a 742nm IR pass filter. Peter
