I have used a Sky T2 for 6 years now and after some initial problems it has been a joy to use. Mine arrived with terrible backlash on both axis. Having been given sound advice on this forum I opened it up. I have never seen so much grease on gears. Not only that the grease used was a thick horrible mess. I cleaned it up, regreased and tightened every thing up and ever since I have had absolutely no back lash problems. I also changed to ADM clamps . I use to double mount for solar observing with a Lunt50 on the top and various fracs on the side for WL and never had any problems. I now use a Solar quest mount and have an AZ 100. The T2 sits unused looking rather forlorn and making me feel rather guilty at having abandoned such an old friend. Next time the Sun shines I will get it out and use it for old times sake.

I hope to-get a week in Skye, late summer/early autumn. It seems that because foreign travel appears to be off the menu , that it is becoming difficult to get a booking because of the raised demand

Had a go at this Mike with a 80 mm achromatic, but even at 144x could not see it. Have viewed it before with a 120 ED and 8 inch Dob. Even with these larger apertures it took a fair bit of patience to see it as you said.

Just set up for later this evening. Vixen 80 mm f11 achromatic. Quick session on the daylight Moon and hopefully a few doubles after it gets dark.

Yes John I really like my ED 120. It has a nice Baader diamond track focuser and on the AZ 100 it really is a joy to use. I was just thinking that a lighter scope would be of use because at times I have to move about my garden to get views of different areas of the heavens. I have an ED 72 but I am not totally impressed with that especially on doubles, which in the summer months are my main interest because it never gets totally dark here.

Wow John. That really is remarkable observing. I tried for this SN with a SW ED 120 and my 8 inch Dob , but as expected with no luck. I must have another go. I keep telling myself I don’t need one of these Taks, but I am weakening.
