  4. After a totally cloudy month of September I at last managed a short session viewing Mars last night. I have included a page from my observation log. The sketch is not as neat as Mikes, but I am no artist lol
  5. Very nice report Jeremy. I managed my first views of Mars last night. Seeing was good and some nice detail showing. Unfortunately it clouded over after about 45 minutes but well worth the time spent.
  6. Very nice work yet again Mike. I managed my first session on Mars last night. It has been cloudy all this month here but I noticed a break in the clouds last night. Only lasted for 1/2 an hour but the seeing was good and over time I picked out some nice detail. I have yet to turn my notes and sketch into a final report, but I hope to post something later today.

  8. You should be able to correct for the differences in sight between your eyes using the diopter. Having said that, I don’t get on using binoviewers either. I have used binoculars for birding for more than 50 years and worked in a hospital laboratory for 45 years using binocular microscopes with no problems at all. When it comes to telescopes the cyclops view is much more pleasing and relaxing Don’t ask me why it’s just a fact for me.

  10. The 4mm ep gives a magnification of 300x and that is far too much for most DSOs The addition of an O III filter will also help to see detail in some of these targets.

Hello and a warm welcome to the SGL.
  14. Using the solar filter film you are observing the photosphere of the Sun. You can see features such as sunspots, faculae and the granulation. A solar Ha filter let’s you observe the chromosphere . Here you can again see sunspots but also filaments and prominences. Adding an Ha filter to your system will not allow that. It is possible to increase the contrast in white light views by adding a solar continuum filter.

  20. Hello and a warm welcome to the SGL. I hope the advice given above will help solve your problems. If not a photo of your set up might be helpful.
  21. None of them. It’s very smooth in action. No backlash and no noise.
  22. I have not had these problems with mine. Guess I just must have been lucky.
