It’s not a bad scope at all although the Bresser is probably a better buy as you get a lot more for your money. Far better spec and really needs nothing doing in the way of improvements except for replacing the finder but the Skywatcher finder needs replacing as well. Costs more up front but basicly nothing to spend aterwards on mods unlike the Skywatcher. Search 200p dob mods and you’ll see what I mean. https://www.firstlightoptics.com/bresser-telescopes/bresser-messier-8-dobsonian-telescope.html You will find the 200p is pretty common on the second hand market though so if you can get it at the right price would be worth it.

9x50 or 6x30 finderscope?
johninderby replied to Adam1234's topic in Getting Started Equipment Help and Advice
The only real complaint I have about the brackets that the 6x30 finders come with is why are they so ridiculously tall. 🤔 I want the RA finder to be mounted close to the OTA. -

As far as I know they will sell parts to anyone. Warrantee Replacement items though I think are limited to the original owner. I’ve always found John at OO to be very helpful but I think they are an old fashined company in the way they deal with customers which some people aren’t used to. Asking not demanding gets results. -

Those stories about OO quality control are so out of date now. A lot of stories about how bad OO was were spread on SGL years ago by a disgruntled ex OO employee who had been sacked. -

Astroshop lists it as an EQ2. The EQ3 version is a 150 -750. https://www.astroshop.eu/telescopes/bresser-telescope-n-150-1400-pollux-eq-2/p,21351 https://www.astroshop.eu/telescopes/bresser-telescope-n-150-750-pollux-eq3/p,62373 -
Carton 100 f/13 Reborn (Return of Big Red)

Brass thumbscrews for the focuser rotation and drawtube locks fitted. The rotation thumbscrew was just a straight forward replacement for the chrome one. The drawtube lock one required a nylon tipped screw and I just couldn’t find one so had to make my own. Got a 4mm to 3mm shaft coupler and drilled out one end to 1/8 to match the shank size of the micro milling bit. Then tapped out the other end to M5. Then just screw it onto the brass thumbscrew and bore a 2.2mm hole in the end of the screw using the guide. Then just push in the nylon tip removed from another tipped screw and job done.👍🏻 And before anyone mentions the screw already has a hole in the end pics were taken after it had been bored out.🙂 -

9x50 or 6x30 finderscope?

The little 6x30 finder on my Bresser 127 mak. Nice and portable and the whole setup can be carried by the handle. 🙂 -

Laser pointers are a bit of a controversial topic. Can’t be used anywhere near an airport or if you live under a flight path. Also not usualy welcome if others are observing with you. Also only low oowered ones are legal. Lots of illegal over powreed ones for sale online. Lots of threads on SGL on the subject. . -

Couple of large S hooks would do to temporarily hang some extra weights. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Large-inch-Black-Wrought-Iron/dp/B00B5FNE9S/ref=asc_df_B00B5FNE9S/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=309800630830&hvpos=1o5&hvnetw=g&hvrand=16832348453303301440&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1006674&hvtargid=pla-696738832456&psc=1 -

Get one and take it apart is perhaps the only definative answer.Seems well reviewed though. -

Their description mentions the following though. ”Thanks to the catadioptic system (integrated barlow lens) the length of the tube is despite to its tall focal length kept short,” The EQ2 version isn’t mentioned on the Bresser site so perhaps discontinued although Telescope House trades as Bresser UK and stuff is shipped from Germany? -

9x50 or 6x30 finderscope?
johninderby replied to Adam1234's topic in Getting Started Equipment Help and Advice
It all depends on the scope. The 6x30 is ideal on a small scope where you are trying to keep size and weight to a minimum but the 9x50 is better but well just bigger. On a small mak for instance that is mainly used for lunar / planetary the 6x30 is all you need but if you will be hunting DSOs then the 9x50 is better. You might consider a 6x30 and a Rigel QuickFinder which makes a nice light combination. The QuickFinder to get you in the area and the 6x30 to zero in. -
I’ve used this and it worked perfectly. Stays flexible so won’t crack and thick enough to seal fair sized cracks. https://www.screwfix.com/p/thompsons-high-performance-roof-seal-black-2-5ltr/46708
