      It was stunning, David, so orange, I said to the Mrs to come and have a look. Took a few DSLR snaps but I have no clue what most of the settings do on the camera!

    Just a quick summary of my recent experience. I emailed MA with a request for a non-standard part for my QHY camera. Had a comprehensive response back which included a quote and link to allow me to order online. I completed the order Sunday, part arrived Tuesday and at a much better price than I feared! Very friendly, helpful service from Bernard

      Feel a bit sorry for the Cambrigeshire County Show, yesterday was fairly bright and dry. Today it is dull, grey and raining in intermittant downpours. The show is today.

      Weekends have been disappointing this year! Am lucky that solar brekkie is now on the menu, it was doing my head in seeing so many poor weekend forecasts and rushing focus when any clear bits turned up! Good luck for some fine weekend weather soon!

    Michael, your timing is impeccable! I downloaded ImPPG just last night and was playing around with it. I gave up in the end as it was getting late but your tutorial will give me a great starting point. Adding screen shots etc would be the icing on the cake so to speak. Just one question regarding taking flats, I use the defocus method through my PST but I struggle to fill the field of view of the QHY with the solar disk if I take the flat at the same focal length as the lights. I assume I need to fill the field of view or take a flat with the same portion of the solar disk in the field as the light pane? Many thanks for taking the time to write this up and any guidance regarding flats much appreciated.

      Managed to grab some dirty frames through the clouds late yesterday afternoon so the streak lives on.

      A good run! I managed 17 straight days on hols last year, typical that it's sunny when I am on hols and can't use my 120mm scope! Back home now and rubbish forecast for the weekend again :D

    Thanks Ivo. I will check the camera's settings. I have never knowingly used or selected face detection mode but who knows.

    Occassionally, when I connect my 1100D to my laptop and start EOS Utility in live view, the zoom button / icon is greyed out. Anyone got any ideas why this happens? Very annoying, the whole purpose of connecting to the lappy is to get better focus but can't do that without zoom. Thanks
