abberation
Hi - can anyone tell me if there is a UK supplier for Bobs Knobs (or similar).Richf
x6gas
All you really need are some knurled thumb screws which you can buy from the UK at a fraction of the cost.See my post in this thread: http://stargazerslounge.com/topic/126724-bobs-knobsAnd just do a web search for "DIN 464" which is the standard spec for this type of knurled thumb screw. abberation
Thanks very much for the info - I'll try them out now and as you say a fraction of the cost!
earth titan
I've purchased direct from Bobs Knobs on 2 occasions. Hassle free and very quick.
astrofox
I agree with earth titan. My Bobs knobs were despatched the same day and arrived if I remember correctly within 3 days. Totally hassle free.
earth titan
It's worth pointing out that the uprated springs are one of the most useful items of all.
John
It's worth pointing out that the uprated springs are one of the most useful items of all.Yep - essential for the Lightbridge 12", Revelation 12" or TS 12" dobsonians if you want them to keep their collimation for long.I've bought Bobs Knobs direct from Bob in the USA for a few scopes over the years and his service is excellent. Spec-Chum
I certainly don't want to do Bob out of any business but I find it hard to believe I can't just walk into B&Q and get some bolts and springs? Is it a really obscure size or something? If you have success (I have tried and given up) then please let me know. TBH my time is too precious to spend hunting around when for the price, someone has done it for me.Sent from my LT26i using Tapatalk

From the thread I've mentioned above:"I ordered a set of thumb screws for my Celestron HD11 in A4 grade stainless steel from a UK supplier for under five quid - in fact I ordered a set of hex head bolts as well as they had a minimum order value of a fiver...I got mine from A2A4 fixings and the M3 x 12mm are perfect for my scope - £1.35 each and arrived the next day..."You pays your money and takes your choice... Spec-Chum
To be Honest, I must confess to being a bit of an idiot and forgot the exchange rate. I was thinking it was 25 quid for them.13 quid delivered is not bad at all actually.
Spec-Chum
How easy are they to fit? Do you just replace one at a time, so nothing has to be removed? Except the old screws, obviously.

Five minute job, but then you will need to recollimate.
rwilkey
No need for a UK supplier, as the US supplier is super efficient and very fast, good communicator too, you can't get better service anywhere.

Bob has been great for answering any questions and delivery is very quick considering it comes from the US.

Northern Soul man
Hi, I took x6gas' advice and bought from A2A4 and they were delivered the next day and installed in about 5 mins - have the Fastar secondary mount on the cpc 1100, the mount is a little more contoured so a little tricky putting them in but just swapped 1 at a time , I was a little nervous because it was a brand new scope and when I undone the first bolt the whole scondary mirror assembly went really loose - just replaced them 1 by 1 and waited for a clear night to collimate - took about 5 mins and was up and running. Spec-Chum
Can someone please advise exactly which ones I'd need to order for both primary and secondary for a skyliner 200p?I think it's m3 for primary and m4 for secondary?
Spec-Chum
Decided to order direct from Bob for the primary. As it worked out around £17 delivered for the 6 knobs, and it would have been around a tenner from the local supplier anyway, and I know what I'm getting...I'm not convinced of the value of the secondary tho, only 3 knobs and around £14 from Bob and around £6 from local supplier, so less then half price, but 25mm is the biggest and Bob's are 30mm or 35mm? Paulus17
So are these Bobs Knobs screws to replace the three/six adjusting screws on the mirrors to save using the Allen key??Sounds good if it it and a lot easier to adjust??

CelestialHaz
I've just ordered some for my C8 SCT which is a post 1980 scope so I needed knobs with the old standard 6-32 thread. The PC thumb screws are these but when I tried them, they weren#t long enough so went ahead and ordered them on Sunday, got an email yesterday saying they are being shipped today...should have done this a long time ago as my scope hasn't yet been perfectly collimated up till now so hopefully these will sort it out
