Saturn - 4th October 2006

Thought i would kick off the new planet season with a quick image of Saturn taken this morning. The rings are closing up now, can really see the difference from last year.

TeleVue 3x Barlow

ToUcam Pro II

Captured with K3CCD Tools 3 and stacked with Registax 3. 704 frames stacked. Captured at 320x240 (idiot!). Resized 200% with resulting picture quality loss

I don't at the moment. Paying for it bigtime today....feel like carp right now! I'm just glad the weather forecast is poor for a few days, i need some sleep.

Nice start to Saturn Russ, I would certainly image at full Resolution i know i keep harping on about it but it does give better results imho.

merged 3 avis and used 2x resampling. Boosted image scale and also calmed down the contrast. Looks better.

I had a play with your latest Processed image see what ya think?

Aligned the Blue channel and lowered the Red channel a little then brought up the levels higher..

to produce a little animation of the angle shift of the rings

Hadn't spotted this, not thinking planets at the mo. Great image Rus and interesting to see just how much the rings have closed. Will soon be time to dust down the Toucam but not just yet!

Great Image Russ, nicely kicking off the planet season.

Just for info really.

Saturn's rings will be completely closed at the end of 2008. They won't be wide open again till 2015. (about Tea time - makes sense if you read the thread in Space News ).
