I see that this is a mostly British forum, but I trust I shall be no less welcome. My name is Brandon Wainscott and I am a 23 (soon to be 24) year old student here in the States, majoring in liberal arts. My interest in astronomy began last summer, and I hope to invest in a telescope and soon take it further. At the present my interest mainly consists in stargazing, though I hope it will expand soon enough. So hello to all and happy days and nights!

Welcome Brandon! I love the states....had my first ever look through a telescope over in Oregon.

I have never been to Oregon, but I want to go. Beautiful landscape and much more rural, and thus much less light pollution than here in the Eastern US. The Western US is the best place in the country to view the stars I would say. And the best view in general--the Pacific Northwest is breathtaking.

It was an incredible place especially with all the volcanoes. I remember it was an observatory near Bend in central Oregon. Was over there for 2 weeks. Northern Pennsylvania was pretty cool too also very "wild". I spent 3 months in the States back in 2002.
