Hello from Malta

My name is Redmond and I'm very happy to be here! I'm from Malta and not completely new to astronomy. I'm returning to this hobby after a previous unsuccessful attempt involving a lot of spending but very little observing! I've now decided for a more gradual approach. I've recently joined the Astronomical Society of Malta and I'm looking into buying a new portable refractor to bring with me to observation nights (...eventually, we're on lock-down here too). I'll be sure to ask for your expert opinion before buying! Thanks for having me and clear skies!

Thanks for the welcome everyone.

Welcome aboard Redmond! Malta is a great place to observe from!

Unfortunately the vast majority of the island is heavily light polluted. We lack proper regulation of outdoor lighting and road lights do not direct their light downward. The fact that the island is so small you can get anywhere in under an hour helps, however, so a reasonably darker sky is never too far away!
