The SGL Star Party is nearly upon us! 😀

Last year was SGL's largest and ticket sales for this year's event are looking good. 

As always there are a number of events and activities planned, including...

Friday night is Curry Night at the Cafe followed by the Astronomy Quiz in the marquee, hosted as always by SGL's wonderful quiz master @michaelmorris. 

On Saturday @Dave Eagle will provide planetarium shows (conditions permitting) during the day.  Free entry is included with your star party booking.  Dave will also deliver his Apollo talk on Sunday. 

Peter Williamson FRAS / Broadcaster http://peterwilliamson.co.uk will provide the key note talk (before the hog roast) 'Herschel to Hawkwind, Astronomy & Music how each influence each other'.  It should be very entertaining. 

Also the Bring & Buy Sale.  Sell your surplus astronomy equipment and bag a secondhand bargain! 

The Hog Roast.  Always popular.  An SGL Star party would not be complete without a hog roast! 

On Sunday they will be serving Sunday Roast at the Cafe. 

If you haven't already booked the Friday Curry, Saturday Hog Roast or Sunday Roast then please do ASAP. 

 

What will FLO be doing?

At last year's event we had a stall.  After speaking with attendees the conclusion was discounts and demos were appreciated but the stall was unnecessary because anyone attending the SGL Star party already knows FLO and are likely already a customer.  So this year there won't be a stall but there will be... 

Discounts for any item collected at the SGL Star party.  If you wish to purchase an item then collect it from us at the SGL Star party we will provide discount (please contact us for details and to arrange collection). 

10Micron demo.  We will take our demo 10Micron GM1000 mount (available at Ikarus Imaging) to the SGL Star party.  If you would like a demo please ask. 

A new mount!  We will shortly be revealing a premium range of astronomy mounts that are new to the UK and will be available exclusively at Ikarus Imaging. We will have one available for demo at the SGL Star Party. 

ZWO ASiair.  The ZWO ASiair is proving very popular and is arguably the best example of its type - an affordable stand-alone unit that provides control of ZWO cameras and a filter wheel.  It also provides Wi-Fi connectivity to a mount, auto-guiding and more. @Grant has been using one for some time and will happily provide a demonstration if asked. 

Rowan Upgrades for HEQ5 Pro mounts.  Rob (he works in our workshop) will be with us at the SGL Star party so if you would like him to fit a Rowan upgrade to your HEQ5 Pro mount please ask (similarly if you are collecting a HEQ5 Pro mount at the event and would like to see an upgrade fitted then that too can be arranged).  And if you experience an equipment failure while at the event do let him know - he might be able to help. 

Rowan AZ100 Alt-Az Mount.  Talking of Rowan, a beta model of the new Rowan AZ100 Alt-Az Mount will be with us at the SGL Star Party. 

With any of the above it will help us greatly if you please contact us with your requirements prior to the event.  We can then make plans and prepare.

A - Suggest taking a supply of paper towels or similar, helps with the drooling......  Seriously though, great to see FLO with top end kit like 10 Micron mounts, I absolutely love mine and have never regretted the investment.

B - Ooooooooooo!

C - Very impressed with the ASiair, and will actually be looking to purchase one with the little guide camera they do with it. Was going to wait until IAS 2019 unless there's a better time to have a look?

Regarding whether to buy one at the SGL SP or at IAS, we will be at both (at IAS we will be with Ian King on the Ikarus Imaging stall) and will be offering the usual 10% event discount off ZWO products.

If one was to avail of this 10% discount, would we have to place the order on the website and add a note to collect or do we buy at the event, SGL SP in my case.

We don’t stock Meade products but if you email us your telescope’s outer diameter (at the front) we will check we have a solar filter to fit. Most sizes are in stock.

Thank you very much the circumference of the Meade is 483mm hoping sort it for the Mercury transit not sure if you have anything but I can only ask.

And here's yet another reason why I've taken to looking towards FLO before other suppliers.  No prompting, and doing everything they can to keep the customers happy.     FLO are ACE :D
