Bearings for HEQ5 Pro

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Sorry to resurrect this post but for those who have replaced bearings in their HEQ5 Pro - is there any reason why you chose the rubber sealed bearings as opposed to the metal sealed lubricated-for-life ones that SKF also do?

I am curious! 🙂

I'm not sure I can help with that. I don't remember what sort of bearings I used. I just asked for the best for given application and got some SKF that I used to replace existing ones.

I'm happy with those so far.

Rubber seals will keep dust out where as the metal ones can still let it in.

I don't see why you cannot use metal as the mount bearings are fully enclosed.

When you think about it the taper rollers are not sealed anyway so the the plain ball bearings
should be ok with either shields.

If you want to be OTT and tinker more, you could choose ABEC 7 grade bearings https://www.skf.com/us/products/mrc/precision-abec-5-and-abec-7-bearings Some skateboarders swear by them (I'm not a skateboarder), lots of ABEC7  skateboard videos on youtube. Its up to you whether you 'believe' or not

The worm bearings are easy to find but the big bearings can be £80 each !
