Problem for Nasa

Just read the headline, but no details.   It seems there is a problem with the Hubble's main camera.

Apologies if this has been reported elsewhere on SGL.    If it can't be fixed remotely, an unlikely event, then with no shuttle to transport a repair team, and Russia not likely to loan a Soyuz vehicle. Perhaps Hubble's days are numbered.       Especially if the  JWST is successfully deployed.

Hubble has been a revelation, and provided some tremendous images for us all. If the telescope is in decline, then it will be a big loss to astronomers worldwide. Maybe it is a bit presumptious to write it off this early, after all, it had more cameras to continue working with.

It is a shame the instrument can't be recovered and brought back to earth, it deserves  a better fate than re entry to a  fiery end.  I do hope I'm being a bit hasty, and a solution is forthcoming to action a fix.,

The JWST will certainly open many more windows to the Universe for sure  However, being such a complicated system, and so many sequential operations needing to perform well during its deployment, delays are inevitable to ensure enough testing occurs to reduce the chance of  problems scuppering the mission.

There will be no chance of on site repairs if a problem does arise.  I'm sure everything humanly possible has been done to ensure success.

We're all. wishing God Speed to the James Webb Telescope.

Ron.

Hubble is a amazing bit of kit but has past its best before date. Im sure it actually was due to be decommissioned quite a while back but has proved so worthy its been pushed beyond its limits. Another one of those tremendous pieces of engineering that way outperforms its expectations.
