Hello from Ross-on-Wye

Hi, nice to meet you all. Thank you to Trevor for inviting me to join this astronomy forum. I met some of you, including Trevor, in person yesterday in Patrick Moore's Garden. Wish I could have stayed on for the star party but I had to get home for work reasons.

I have been interested in astronomy for many years, though I am not an expert. Had a Charles Frank 4 inch reflector since the age of 13 but have recently bought a Celestron NexStar 8 inch. Although comparatively new to imaging through a telescope (have imaged a few things with my Nikon cameras), I intend to try imaging the Solar System objects with my new toy and will probably be needing lots of advice.

The Stargazer's Lounge looks like a good place to be!

Thank you all for an amazing welcome!

I look forward to spending time on here (though time will be limited unfortunately as my work is a 24/7 thing, covering local news for Ross-on-Wye at www.wyenot.com. I shall be running the short interview I did with Sir Patrick Moore on there this coming Wednesday. Much less interesting fall asleep type job this evening thogh - covering the 'Ross-in-Bloom Awards'. Hope it finishes early as flowers are NOT me and I want to get the scope out.

Again: nice to meet you all!

Hello Alan and welcome to SGL

I live on the outskirts of Hereford just down the road from you at Ross on Wye. You may already know that a Herefordshire Astro Society started in March 2008 and its next meeting is Thursday 2nd October at the Kindle Centre next to Asda when you drive in from Ross to Hereford. If you were not already aware then you are welcome to come along - meeting starts at 7pm.

Mark

Thank you all again. Once Tuesday is out of the way, I will be able to take a closer look at this forum and maybe upload some of my attempts at astro photos. (I publish my local news and TV programme Wednesdays, so Mondays and Tuesdays are, let's just say 'stressful' deadline days.)

Thank you very much for the info on Hereford Astronomy Society. I shall put that one in my diary and try my best to come along.
