Freddie
Having completed my Apollo 11 Airfix kit (last time I completed one of these was ~35 years ago !!) that I was given for Christmas, I thought it would be good to get my own image of the landing site. My images were taken on 3rd April. The next 3 images are from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter. The first showing the lander base unit casting a long shadow and then the next two showing wider fields of view. The craters at the bottom of the above image are those at the bottom of the image below. The image below is a crop of my original image. The two craters with the ridge between them on the left of the image above being the two craters in the middle of my image below. This final image is my original FOV
Stu
Great stuff Freddie! Love the model, I've always wanted to build one of those!
michaelmorris
Nicely built model with a very good paint finish. Nice pics of the landing site too. I have a heart condition and on the thankfully rare occasions when it lays me up for a few weeks I too build spacecraft models. So far I've completed Skylab, Gemini capsule, MIR, Apollo CSM and LM, A Space Shuttle, the X-15 and the Ariane 5 booster. In the loft I have a Mercury/Atlas rocket, a full Shuttle stack, the Skylab Saturn V and a Saturn 1B still to build!
Pieter
Wow it is nice to see the scale of the lander vs the rocket! Great job!

Astro Imp
Thanks for posting a very interesting and informative series of images. BTW, love the model.
johnfosteruk
Fantastic set of images, that model really rather does bring home the immensity of those Saturn V rockets. Those blokes had chops to get launched on top of them!!!
neil phillips
Great idea Freddie, puts it into perspective. The rocket is a lot bigger than I thought it was going to be. I remember airfix I think.
Freddie
Thanks for your comments everyone. Had fun with the Saturn V so am now onto a space shuttle. I also have a few more random lunar shots from the same night which I'm processing and will hopefully post later.
Stub Mandrel
So jealous! I think I must have made mine a few years before your first! I keep promising myself one, I have 3D printed the bottom part using files from NASA but i haven't made my new printer yet so can't finish it. Nice pics too!
