  1. Maxload has a higher payload. Have you seen what some people are loaded it up with? 180 triplet, 460mm DK or CC. And no, I don't absolutely need a engine hoist, I have loaded it in that previous pic without the hoist with legs retracted and both 12" x 2 extension columns. But I bought one that lives at my dark site to help and I love it. Just got it assembled tonight and used it. Take down was a breeze.
  2. The views are insane. Open clusters are magical, double stars are amazing as well. My 9" reminds me of when I had a 12" dob. More of a hassle to set up but def has that refractor magic.
  3. Yes and yes. The DM6 is at its limit but surprisingly still performs well . I am getting an AZ maxload from APM coming to me soon though.
  4. My favorite scope to date- 9" Istar f7.7! It is massive but the views are worth it.
  5. Thank you for this review. This is certainly a unique mount and there is barely any write ups on it. On a losmandy tripod with extension it looks just about perfect for my needs if the DM6 is not up for the challenge.
  6. You did a really great job with the wrapping too. This will be a huge boon to your observing now. Congrats.
  7. I am looking forward to your ongoing thoughts with this scope. If I move up in aperture this is my next scope I will buy.
  8. Which model AP130EDT is that? The first run or the second run? Primarily, is the focal length f8.35 or F8 on the lens cell?
  9. Here is my latest acquisition. A Celestron Starhopper 12. Mirror was recoated by Normand Fullum not too long ago. It is a very sharp mirror. Major issue was the azimuth control. The roller bearing on the sheet metal offered little to no friction which made controlling the dob hard, and very noisy. I did away with the sheet metal and used 2 pieces are hard cardboard from a box that a vacuum came in. Much better and super smooth. The stock focuser was fine, but I put on a moonlite on it.
  10. You will get outstanding images using FC and lucky imaging with this scope.
  11. I am not an imager, visual only. I prefer to not bring out my computer at all costs. I don't think I have a problem with power but I can easily test that with a multimeter.
  12. Wise choice! My friend absolutely loves his.
  13. ^ my observing buddy said the same thing for his EQ8. He does long exposure imaging and ended up selling it for a 10 micron
  14. Hmmmm it seems platesolving is the way to go. I carry out a deep cycle battery which can power the mount and computer so perhaps I should look into this. I will buy a 12.5mm reticle eyepiece to align perfectly. I will end my movements in up and right directions only. If this doesnt work, I will try to learn platesolving. Problem is , in the extremely cold winter, my laptop will not work- battery drains in like 5 mins. I am hoping the first two steps will be sufficient. I also downloaded a new app, polar alignment. This app shows a different hour angle for polaris than the SynscanInit 2.1 app...........unreal! Perhaps this was my issue as well.....
  15. My mount is perfectly level, but no, I wasnt ending my movements to the alignment star in up and right directions
  16. New video on the EQ8-R! Looks like a great mount.
  17. Hello, i have an EQ6 and was just curious how I can go about getting super accurate GOTO alignment. I am having issues finding smaller targets with my 8" mak because my goto is always off. So I have to scan around a lot. Sometimes I find the targets, most times, not sure. I just started using SynscanInit 2.1 along with SS6 pro as a visual reference but I am not sure if the app has helped or not (the hour angle seemed off even though it pinged the right GPS). I did the alignment procedure (both 3 star and 2 star) three times last night and I was still out by approx 2 degs in elevation and 1 deg in AZ. This is seriously cutting into my observing time, and objects like planetary nebula and non common double stars are basically impossible to find for me. Any tips would be most appreciated.
  18. Thanks for the comments and likes all! Planets are perhaps not the best for me either at 53 degrees north. Mars comes back at 2020 though at a high elevation, so thats what I am planning for. Plus, lunar mono and binoviewing, and planetary nebula, small dso's for regular usage. These scope is a rare bird with the optical quality I am looking for. It is a very specific tool, but that's how I view my scopes.- to fill a role with respects to other scopes. I will plan to wrap the OTA in reflectix after measuring some cool down times, and see what works better.
  19. The Dark Aster has landed! I just received this beautiful scope in Canada from a civil engineer in Italy with expensive tastes with fine mounts and scopes. He decided to part with his perfect OMC200 Deluxe for me. It is pre2013 model. Looks and feel magnificent, a true work of art. It has: -paper test report 98.7% Sterhl, 1/8 wave upgrade -4000mm focal length, f20 @ 22% obstruction -CNC machine losmandy dovetail -micrometer focuser -passive cooling vents from mirror and corrector plate Here is live video of this scope in action- on a steel ball behind a fence 300m away during the daytime away at a staggering 2000x magnification (2mm Vixen) and the image razor sharp....incredible! Expand to open the video. I haven't been this excited over a scope in a while! Yes, it has a small fov, but my Brandon's should sing in this scope. Looking at possibly adding a binoviewer from Dennis some time. OMC 1.mp4 OMC 2.mp4
  20. I have a 250S Mewlon. It is outstanding. Everything I wanted in a large aperture scope. Deep sky and lunar views are razor sharp. Sharper than a C11Edge on the moon. It is slightly out of collimation but I am afraid to touch it, since the views are fine for deep sky up to 14mm Delos....Cools quickly, a bit long but lightish weight. No dew to worry about, no image shift with the electronic focus. The 210 may have a bit of mirror shift but other than that, it would be more portable and go on a lighter mount. I wouldnt hesitate to own one.
  21. Now that is a unique instrument!! Never seen one for sale ever. Looks like a keeper
  22. I concur, both the 80L and 80A LOMO's were the best , most contrasty refractor I have ever looked through. Congrats on the 115!!!
