Sh2-224 (SN remnant in Auriga)

Epicycle

Recommended Posts

Hi,

we don't see this object too often here at SGL. It's a very curious asymmetrical supernova remnant in Auriga.

I should've left this for darker nights, but it  was just too intriguing. Processing was a pain due to ugly moon gradients

(in spite if the 5nm Astrodon) but more annoyingly, thin clouds getting in the way. In the end I managed 20x1800s subs which

was just about enough to make sense of the object.

Details:

-Megrez 72 @ 4.8 and SXVR-H9

-Astrodon 5nm and; guided off axis with SX mini filter wheel.

-Processed in PI.

-20x1800s =10hs

Comments as always are very welcome!

cheers

Epicycle

How odd... I was looking at this one last night when deciding what to go for, and decided against it as its supposed to be quite hard. And yes, it must be - because youve had to throw 10 hours at it to get a good image. Well done, tough object.

If you thought the Ha was faint you'll find the OIII a real rib tickler :)

Nice capture you have there. Dark and clear skies are a must I feel.

If you want to really stretch the Ha and OIII you could always try the star less method.

Dave.

I agree, the OIII is probably almost non-existent. For stretching the Ha I did actually treated the big stars separately.

Very nice image. Never seen images of this one on SGL. Thanks for sharing

I did a not too extensive search and the following came up: http://stargazerslounge.com/topic/195109-sh2-224/ (that's a great capture).

That's a great capture of a very difficult object Epicycle - nice one.

Thanks Ian!

I've not seen this one before. Great image of a difficult target.

Thanks. Here is a colour image (not by me!) showing also great detail: http://istarion.net/images/Nebulas/Sh2-224/Publish/SH2-224-RGB-Blue-Matts-Sporre-1280C.jpg

I agree, hats off. Mark.

Thank you!
