Disappointed or what?

Had a lovely clear day in Lincs. so set up the scope about 16.30.

While it was still getting dark I had a good look at Luna and then went in for dinner.

Came out and the seeing seem great as I easily split Castor and then moved across to Jupiter hoping to watch the Io moon transit, although the planet was showing some detail couldn't see either the moon or its shadow.

As I was observing the view gradually deteriorated and I looked away from the EP and could only see a very hazy Jupiter and the moon trying to show through the clouds.

Oh well at least the scope got a short airing.

It's a case of grabbing whatever opportunities we can get just lately - although I do agree that it's not much fun when it takes longer to set the kit up than actual viewing - but even a few minutes is better than nothing

Just caught the beginning of the Io transit before the clouds rolled in, Antares 127mm achromat X150. Moon and Jupiter dull blobs in a hazy sky now.

I could just see Jupiter with averted vision by the time it got anywhere near dark.

clear untill about 15 mins before lunar x was going to be visible, never mind astrofest tomorrow if the storm has not washed the train tracks away!

It was good in Cleethorpes about 6-30pm, Jupiter was the best I've seen. The moon looked great too, but it seemed to have a big halo around it! Was this mist? Looked very dramatic!

The halo is ice particles high up I think. Often when the air is not perfectly transparent the seeing is very good - for planets at least.

Clear all day..........as soon as it got dark , in rolled the clouds.  Sat here now listening to the wind and driving rain........again.

Stars, Jupiter? What are this objects you all speak of? I heard legends that they used to fill the sky two weeks ago or so...
