After many years of staring at the sky, marvelling at all that magnificence is up there, my wife has finally been persuaded by the combined efforts of the (sadly) late Sir Patrick Moore and Professor Brian Cox to enter the realm of the amateur astronomer. Today she took the plunge and ordered a Skywatcher Explorer 200P-DS HEQ5 from FLO, together with a couple of Baader Hyperion eyepieces (8mm and 13mm), and some essential accessories to provide power and keep the setup collimated.

We can't wait for the Saturday delivery and our experience of first light.

I have to say that the Stargazers Lounge has been an enormous help in working our way through what, to a newcomer, is a complex and immensely confusing field; and we look forward to a long association with these forums.

Hi Butser and welcome to SGL, "a complex and immensely confusing field to a newcomer", it certainly is to many, but you have done well in choosing a nice combination of Astro gear and your Hyperions will enable you to direct couple a camera for afocal photography in time to come, which will open up another new world for you :)

John.
