Moretus shadows

Here's a comparison image of the crater Moretus (117km) taken on the mornings of the 4th and 5th of August showing the development of the wonderful central mountain peak complex shadow.

Super detail in there Pete, very nice indeed.

Was it taken at that mag, or is that a 'zoom' on the original?

Dave, that's as it came out of the telescope. I use a 3x Barlow which with an f/11 scope gives me... erm... f/42. The reason it's f/42 and not f/33 is that the filter wheel I use pulls the camera back from the Barlow slightly, increasing the image scale as it goes. f/42 on a 350mm telescope gives an effective focal length of 14.7 metres or an equivalent magnification of x588.

Just goes to show how the high frame rate of that Luminera camera, can 'grab' that sort of detail at x568, through 'micro gaps' in the average 'seeing'.

Fantastic image Pete i have just got a C 14 and i must say after owning a few good refractors the moon through the c 14 is mind blowing.
