Mars is very small and far away, so a gert big scope would normally be recommended for the best view. I can see some surface detail and the polar caps ect with my 6" reflector a 10mm EP and 2x barlow so it does depend on what kind of view you are expecting.

Hi Mars will get better, as others have said it is so far away at the moment. I am in the same boat, cant wait to see the red planets detail. I heard it will be in a great position come August. Have to make do with Jupiter, Saturn, Venus and possibly Mercury til then.

Mars will be pretty much gone well before August. Then two years before next opposition and I suspect that will be low as it will be perhaps in Virgo or Sagittarius by then? detail is possible with a 6" scope but you'll not be getting hubble-esque visual images.
