Taking the plunge...

Hello everyone.

I have finally decided to make my first post after lots of lurking and reading. I have also found that the curse of the new telescope seems to be true. I bought a used EQ5 pro synscan mount off ebay a little over a week ago and have had some lovely clear skies since it's arrival. However I didn't have a telescope to put on it.

My shiny new Skywatcher Explorer 150PDS arrived on Monday and the sky has been completely obscured by cloud every night since.

I've just ordered a 5mm BST Explorer eyepiece as well so that should mean even more cloud to come.

Anyway if I ever get to use my telescope I'll let you know how I get on. Planning to stick my DSLR on it at some point too.

Just want to say what a great site it is and how useful it has been in helping me choose my first scope ......and completely blowing my budget! Oh well, buy once cry once.

Welcome to SGL...

Take advantage of the weather at present!...Get your new scope set upon its mount inside, centre the polar scope, get your finder aligned and generally familiarise your self with the setup and get the scope/mount balanced...all this can take some time when you are new to the hardware.

Also you'll be suprised how fiddly things are in the dark, so getting used to the scope in the comfort of your home pays dividends.

...enjoy!
