Hello! I'm mainly a sports photographer based out of Kansas City, Mo. Soccer is my niche but I'm quickly and by quickly I mean I want it now, getting into astrophotography.

I don't own any telescopes but I do own some nice camera gear/lenses.

I currently have a Canon 1d mkIV. I also own a canon 300mm F/2.8L mkII "best astro lens"? I also own a 8-15 f/4L fisheye.

I own more in between but I figured theses would be my two best astro lenses.

Are there any members in the KC area?

Here are some of my first shots:

I really want to get into deep space, detailed moon shots, and planetary shots. I'm also guessing I'm going to need a telescope for most of this?

Hi Brian,

Welcome to SGL.

Im no expert, but I believe you could use your 300mm for widefield deepspace shots, though you would need a motorised EQ mount at least.

You would definitely need a scope (and more!) for close up shots of the moon and planets.

You'll probably get more detailed advice on this if you ask in the imaging section.
