That is a lot of zeros for a scope. What you would have to do is buy a house with a sliding roof. You & your scope could live upstairs,& the misses & kids could live downstairs.Im shore your bankmanager would sub

the 80 grand. You could have a lot of scope parties then.Sod the weather.I think things would look quite good through the scope after a few tinnies.Way to go.:) Steve.

That 50" was $137,000 plus delivery charge, and they wanted paying up front in full before they would even start work on making the mirror.

I thought they said 75%. Still rather a lot of money. Anyway, people often say you should spend as much on the EPs as on the scope. What would you need to do in this case? Platinum plate a series of Ethos EPs, and/or get Al Nagler to design you a 3" barrel, 150 deg 22mm super-ethos as a one-off design? By the complete set of all TV, Pentax, Takahashi, anyone got something more expensive? eyepieces ever produced?

Even though it would never have been the sort of scope than anyone I know could have afforded I'm still disapointed that the project was cancelled. :)

Some of the American dealers still have the ordering info and price. Like the mention that a forklift is recommended to unload the primary mirror when you get it. :)

Retail price $123,000.00

Ordering Information:

Due to the exclusive nature of these telescopes, a purchase contract is required and will be supplied by an Orion Sales Representative that will be your personal contact throughout the sales, building, delivery, installation and use of your custom-built telescope. Once your order is received you will be contacted by your Orion representative.

A 75% down payment will be required to place your order. Although a credit card number is taken at the time you enter your order information online, your credit card is not charged. A wire transfer of the deposit will be required prior to beginning to build your telescope. Final payment by wire transfer will be required prior to shipping.

The estimated expected shipping date is displayed, but this is only an estimate. As this is a custom built product the actual shipping date may vary.

This product will ship directly from the North American factory. Shipping is arranged by Orion, usually by air freight and in consultation with the customer. The Customer is responsible for all shipping, insurance, brokerage fees, duties and taxes.

The customer is also responsible for arranging for needed material handling equipment at the delivery site (for example, the crated 50" mirror will weigh about 500 lbs — you’ll want a forklift or a whole bunch of friends!).

Some customization options and installation services are available at an additional expense. Your personal Orion Sales Representative can provide additional information.

John
