  1. Welcome a great choice but you do understand that you will have to talk as quickly as our old dear friend Sir Patrick Moore
  2. Hi I went out this early evening to see if Saturn and Jupiter were observable but the clouds dominated this area. The Moon however was in a very clear area so I used my MeadeETX90 with a bino viewer with two 25mm eyepieces and spent some time viewing it. The views were really good as the Moon was in the first quarter which is when I feel is one of the best times to view it as it is not to bright. The shadows that were being cast were amazing but once again the clouds rolled in so until the next time??
  3. great idea binoculars viewing is the way forward I am certainly hooked ,I use my binoculars viewer at every opportunity. I have never observed the moon and planets in a single eyepiece that can compare with binoculars viewing
  4. great photo ,this is the view that I saw both planets in one 25mm eyepiece well pleased
  5. Great topic /comments and photos thanks for shearing them with us
  6. I went outside just being curios as to the seeing conditions today at 5 15pm. The was clear spot in the south and I could see the moon and Saturn also Jupiter. I quickly nipped into my shed and grabbed my Meade ETX 90 which had my bino viewer on with two 25mm eye pieces, ihad the amazing but brief view of the two planets but the clouds soon obliterated the view. There was also a beautiful crescent moon in a very clear area and I managed 10 minutes before the clouds rolled in . the binoviewer is a new piece of kit for me and I was well impressed with being able to use both eyes
  7. Great shot ,I also have a 6 inch fullerscope lurking in my shed my first serious scope in the late 1960s. your photo reminds me that I must obtain a small side table to keep the kit tidy and ready to hand
  8. Great video what a fantastic build well done

  9. Hi John It was good to see the winter favourites again
  10. Hi just went outside to see what the weather was like and behold clear sky with a little haze but improving. The ploughGemini, Orion ,and Taurus and the Pleiads were really prominent. Suddenly a Geminid meteor zoomed across my view so I waited and watched for a while and then saw two more. Earlier in the evening the sky was cloudy so I put my Meade etx away I would have liked to have viewed Orion but it would have created a din to get my equipment out another time perhaps
  11. HI memories memories I still have myFuller scopes catalogue still browse it from time to time . I have my 6 inch fuller scope Newtonium which was delivered in a tea chest from Fullerscopes complete with a 25mm (1inch)Orthoscopic eye which is still in use.
  12. Superb reading, lots of memories of those early days when we made most of our kit.and I still do good old army surplus
  13. Hi I have pair of Charles Franks 10x50 Nipole binoculars and they are really good made in Japan . Charles also produced a book 1958 called Franks book of the telescope, which makes excellent reading. When we first got interested in astronomy in the 1950,60s we made up eye pieces and finders from army surplus lenses and I and my old friend still use these eyepieces today. My first real telescope was a Fullerscope 6 inch reflector which I still have Happy days
  14. I have also recently purchased a binoculars viewer and was looking at the moon , I was blown away by the image available. As I have stated previously I should have invested in one years ago
  15. I too have been having problems with my right eye which I always use at the telescope. I recently purchased a binoviewer and this has really improved my viewing ,using two eyes has really helped as you can focus each eyepiece . Should have purchased one years ago.
  16. Hi I thought I saw a light dancing across Mars the other night , now this explains it
  17. I agree you would be better off with the Celestron range. One of the best tripods that I have had for many years Is a wooden tripod designed to carry a theodolite, this is rock solid
  18. Do not worry the good nights you do get will be worth it . You can of course purchase a sun filter and increase your viewing time. I have had unbelievable daytime views of the moon and the sun.
  19. Hi all I went out before the moon came up and viewed Saturn and Jupiter, Saturn was very good but Jupiter is getting low from my vantage point. I then started to view Mars which was really with some detail visible, Shortly the Moon was rising so I put my kit away and used my 15x70 binoculars on the moon which was greatly had a look at the Pleiades which was amazing The clouds started to form along with the due so I called it a night.
  20. Great picture takes me back in time. I went out tonight earlier and also noticed it was reasonably clear so I used my Meade etx90 and had some fantastic views of the moon with a few glimpses of Mars. Two local neighbours passed and they had a few views of the moon and they were blown away as they had never seen the moon through a telescope. I then set up my Celestron6se and used a barlow lense once again they could not believe the detail available, all in all Iwas pleased to show them what is possible to see.
  21. Great shot I was viewing the same tonight but as previously stated the clouds rolled in
  22. Same problems but I have a Meade 90 etc set up on a tripod no drives .I went out tonight and had 2o minutes on the Moon,Jupiter and Mars then the clouds rolled in . I also have a Celestron 6se but by the time I have set it up same old problem, but the next next will be ok won't it????
  23. Thank goodness for SGL there is always someone to help well done. Went out tonight to view Mars and have a good look around at the Pleiades and all things available. The problem was the clouds came rolling in after half an hour ,but it was still enjoyable.
  24. This obsy is a good design, I can see why you have placed the tins in the horizontal position as this provides a good seal with the corrugations. If you were to project the tins over the sides by 100 mm and then turn the edges down to 30 degrees the rainwater would run off the edge and not run back to the obsy. nice job, looks like it may be goodbye to my greenhouse. cheers
