  1. I’ve learnt to wait and see what the weather is actually like rather than rely on a hit and miss forecast.
  2. Hi Tony and welcome to SGL. You have picked the same scope as me to start with and I'm sure you wont be disappointed.
  3. Hi Adam, welcome to SGL from NW England.
  4. I have an 8" dob and while the planets are not huge I wouldn't call them tiny either. Give your dob a try you might be surprised.
  5. Might have been an obsolete satellite, there is an awful lot of junk up there.
  6. Thank you very much for the info Alan, it never ceases to amaze me how much combined knowledge there is on this site. Maurice.
  7. On the Skywatcher stainless steel tripod with 3/8" thread, does anyone know what the actual pitch is. I think it might be UNC or UNF but can't find any info.
  8. I would suggest that you get a hurricane blower and blow the dust off the lens first to avoid any scratching of the lens.
  9. Thanks for the input, looks like I will have to keep looking for a solution. btw I didn’t mention mine is the GT which is f9.8.
  10. I have a Celestron Nexstar 102 refractor which optically I am very pleased with, however the tripod is far from steady. Has anyone successfully managed to improve the tripod or found a better replacement. Thanks in advance.
  11. My images of Jupiter have been a bit fuzzy lately and thought being so near the moon last night it would be even worse but I got the best image yet and could clearly see the bands an 4 moons. Not complaining just confused.
  12. Thanks for the info Roland, it certainly looks like they are a specialist part and not readily available, maybe if some of our diy experts see this thread they may be able to suggest something.
  13. Yes Roland that is exactly what I am looking for but after several searches using various descriptions I have drawn a blank.
  14. Thanks for your input, I was hoping they were a normal item as they are used on all different types of wooden tripods.
  15. Yes it is the metal rectangular bracket that encloses the main tripod leg and the extension leg an usually has a threaded knob to secure the extension leg.
  16. I am considering making a wooden tripod and I can not find what the metal brackets that hold the extension legs secure are called, can anyone help please.

    Greetings

    Hi and welcome to SGL.
  18. I fitted the Skywatcher RACI 9x50 finder yesterday and along with the telrad it makes a perfect setup.
  19. I have been looking at finder scopes recently and was wondering if you could use a 50mm guide scope with a 1.25 focuser as a finder scope by fitting a star diagonal and a 1.25 32mm eyepiece. I don't see why not but would appreciate the thoughts of our more experienced members.
  20. Hi David, welcome to SGL. Our daughter and niece both live in Ireland so we are regular visitors.
