  1. I prefer the 9 hour image but both are better than my two attempts so far........
  2. I guess that you spotted that the power supply does not have a cigar lighter socket but that is easy to sort. Go for it. I am going to get one of those dry boxes myself after Xmas Hold on just checked the dimensions. PSU 22.6 x 19.2 x 10.8 Dry box 15 x 28 x 11 so the PSU will not fit in the box
  3. I made a little "dog kennel" that I used to slide the power supply in to keep it off the ground. Its own heat kept the unit dry. The kennel was open at both ends for ventilation. It was made from plywood. I used it over a couple of winters with no problems but some may frown on the practice.
  4. Is there any information on the pro version out there? When I try to download it goes to the PayPal payment page first so would like to know a bit more about the pro version before committing. Anyone help?
  5. these are auxillary attachment points which can be used for anything that needs to be fixed to the scope. I have a handle fixed to these points to make it easy to lift the scope
  6. Update on my all sky camera post. I had some software and memory issues on the first test so need to uprate the SD card but the Meteotux software is working well. If anybody has updated to the Pro version of Meteotux and can tell me how its done that would be great
  7. I have one. Needs to be as far away as you can get it >15m
  8. I managed to finish my Meteotux all sky camera on Wednesday so have just set it up in the garden as its clear at the moment. Hopefully if the focus and settings are correct I might capture something
  9. Direct plastics do 300 x 300 x 0.25mm ptfe sheet if that helps £3.50 plus vat plus delivery approx
  10. I put that question at the end of a talk by an expert and was told no. The ones we detect are a long way off. Something to do with the distance between us and the radar site and the reflection angle as I recall.
  11. From Shropshire I point my Yagi so the element support beam is 20 degrees up from horizontal. and slightly East of South. A degree or two out I don't think matters
  12. When I started I used some software called Bandicam. It was about $30 as I recall. I set it up to record the screen and audio in half hour periods. It has a delayed start feature that is useful for meteor recording. Next day I would revue each AVI for recordings of interest. Fast forwarding I would look for signals then reverse and watch and listen to the event. I could also take screen shots of interesting events. With twenty in the class you could give them one half hour AVI each for analysis. Just a thought.
  13. For first DSO's you cannot beat globular clusters. They are bright and easy to recognise in the eyepiece.
  14. If its an upstairs room which has wooden joists then as you move about in the room the floor will flex and the object on the sensor will be lost. I know as I have tried it. Its a nightmare. You stand next to the mount, centre the object, walk to the laptop and is gone
  15. My mount is remote from my warm room and I had (amongst other parameters) the voltage at the mount sent back to the warm room and displayed as a live graph on a screen. As a result you got used to watching the voltage dip in various ways as the system operated. With my Atik filter wheel I would issue a command to change the filter and you would see a certain change in the graph as the task was completed. During one session I was staring at the console (not much to do while imaging) and I noticed a random voltage dip that looked very like a filter change so I went to the mount and listened to the filter wheel and sure enough it whirred at odd times. Needless to say the filter wheel has been replaced so yes it can happen
  16. I have used a small petrol generator and a long extension lead for power in the field. On a full tank it will run for 7 hours at a modest load.
  17. I have a Pi zero, a wide angle lens, a plastic dome so might give this a go. I will get a HD camera and ribbon cable from the Pi Hut. I will post an image if it works out. Pixel peeping leads me to think that the software stacks on the stars. The trees land roof line look a bit soft.
  18. Reading up on this software I think that you set the exposure at (say) 200 ms per Jpg and the number of exposures to stack in the time interval set. I guess the wide angle lens would be very forgiving over 60 seconds.
  19. Are these jpg's stored on the SD card for viewing later or live on a monitor? Looked into this and I can see that they are stored on the SD card.
  20. I had a look on websites to see if other options could be found and the closed height limitation pretty much points to the mount you are looking at. Flo has a feedback message and only negative seems to be the centre tray being tight to clip in. I use both the solarquest and star adventurer but on the larger skywatcher mount but it would not go low enough for your needs. I am sure that Flo would accept a return if you found it did not meet your needs. Only downside is no stock at the moment. One last thought. Is the top boss wide enough and you would need to source a suitable centre bolt. AstroBoot has a SW EQ1 tripod for £21. As I recall they go down pretty low. Worth a look. Nope 71cm is as low as they go
  21. If I have understood the video correctly the tracking error over 23 hours and 56 mins is tiny.
