  1. Switch mode power supplies are small, light weight, low cost and efficient when compared with linear types but switch mode PS's don't cope well with transients. From experience SM's also vary a lot in design and quality where low price is a key factor in achieving volume sales.
  2. It does not sound like a voltage droop issue from the description but one way to find out is to introduce a controlled voltage drop and see if you can replicate to guiding glitch. I would wire a 12 volt stop and tail light bulb in series with a switch across the power supply and by switching the bulb on and off you can cause a momentary voltage droop to the mount. The bulb filament will have very low resistance at first but the resistance rises rapidly as the filament heats up. Should result in a fast momentary voltage droop which will test your theory
  3. You will need an extension to move the camera further away from the scope. I am guessing that you have the focuser all the way out and the moon is still not in focus. I use a TeleVue 3.5 inch long 2" extension tube that I got from Flo their part number X3C-0009. You can use a diagonal if you have one instead of the tube. The good news is that Flo have two in stock

  6. I see the setting you have is 143028 khz which I suspect means that the data is displayed off the screen. I use 143048 khz. (The Eyes are the first to go they say)
  7. I am on my other laptop and have attached my SDR settings list which might help. This is using the free software SDR-radio dongle set.txt
  8. It did take me a while to figure out all the settings. To check out everything I would just use the SDR waterfall to start with and don't forget to set the gain on the dongle (about 25 is ok for my system). In the early days I used Bandicam to record half hour sessions of the screen and next morning scroll though each AVI to see if I captured something. If you have one of those gas lighters that emit a spark when the lever is squeezed then that should give you an artificial signal to test the system
  9. I find that good polar alignment is essential and use Sharpcap's polar alignment tool to achieve this.

  11. Out of interest has anybody tried one of the WiFi extenders that plug into a spare USB port such as the ones sold by the PI Hut? They are supposed to be plug and play with Pi4's but do they work with the ZWO ASI pro? I see there is a YouTube video where at around three mins the Guy mentions a net gear extender
  12. When I was looking at a roll of roof I would have adapted a sliding gate automation kit. These kits are available for around £125. You get the motor and gearbox, racks, limit switches and infrared break beam sensors. They looked easy enough to adapt to the needs of a roll off roof. I really liked the idea of using the IR beam sensors so that if the scope was left point up the roof could be stopped before it hit the scope when closing. In the end I opted for a Dome observatory but that is what I would have used had I have gone for the roll off roof.
  13. I have a wedge with the so called Brewster angle but only use it for imaging for which it gives excellent results. As I recall when I purchased it I had to specify whether it was to be used for imaging or visual. I use it on a F11 90mm refractor.

  15. The star adventurer is quite a good mount. I have a guide scope that I first put in the dovetail and use Sharpcap's polar alignment tool to Polar align then move it to a clamp on the counterweight shaft and use PHD2 for guiding. I find that this setup gives remarkable results. To find objects I use plate solving. It shows what can be done but I admit its not a setup for beginners. My setup is based on the SA Pro kit so it came with a wedge. SA pro guided with an ED72. 60 frames using Sharpcaps live stack and save 870 seconds total time

  17. your welcome. I dispensed with the heater and just set the sensor temperature to 3 c. Although you can hear the relay clicking is does not affect the stability of the image.
  18. If you lag the camera body then tuck the sensor next to the camera body underneath the insulation. Use sharpcap to monitor the sensor temperature and adjust the on/off controller temperature till it gives you what you want. These temperature settings will be different to what sharpcap says but once set will give good results. Takes about a hour and a half of bench time to optimise the settings You can cut the sensor wire length to suit as its about half a metre long as I recall

  21. Re the temperature drop question, in a warm room at say 20c and bench testing shows a sensor temperature of 5 c means that outside in the cold air it will go down to around -8c unless some form of control is introduced.
  22. Putting some insulation round the camera body will improve the cooling and stop the external condensation. ZWO do some circular stick on heaters which will help with the window fogging. Flo list them I think ZWO Anti-dew heater strip for ASI cooled cameras
