  1. Hi.My advice would be make sure the laser is collomated. Or it will off every time you insert it in the focuser. Took me a while to collomate my laser.but it's worth spending the time doing it.I used a lathe..and it's perfect.hope this helps.
  2. 200p is great scope.have no intention of selling mine .haven't seen much that would persuade me to change.if you want to photograph then yes I'd change.if I was thinking of did change it would be to larger dobsonion.enjoy your 200p.you'll get fabulous views .
  3. I agree not everyone wants (or needs)a goto setup.I enjoy my 200p skyliner. Worth every penny.IMHO.
  4. If non goto Dobsonions are (as you stated unusable) then why are they so popular with first time buyers and experienced astronamers. .????.
  5. Another vote for 200p skyliner. I may be biased it will give fabulous views .simple to set and use.well worth considering. Budget or not.you'll need deep pockets to get much better.enjoy the sky with whatever you decide to buy.
  6. Nice scope to infinity and beyond.haha. Should get some good views with that.
  7. Hi.I have a modified skywatcher 200p skyliner. And I don't have balencing issues. As you can see from picture.I used 2bungie ropes (1 either side) to keep tension on the alt adjustments either up or down.very simple and works very well.could possibly be used on a flexi-tube.
  8. If yours is flexing try filling with expanding foam.that should improve it and not flex.I'm happy with mine and don't feel the need to improve it . Expanding foam should make it less likely to flex.and not add too much weight.
  9. But I'm northern hemisphere and the planets are low this time of year.I tend to look when there higher up in the night sky.
  10. I'd like to ask is there any point in trying to state which gives a more pleasing veiw in poor viewing conditions?. we all like to veiw in fair to good conditions. But sometimes for me if it's that bad then I put my dobsonion back in my conservatory and wait for better nights. Isn't that logical.
  11. I cannot see that waiting for temperature cool down for a dob is a reason to overlook having one. My suggestion is have a look at the options don't just take anyone's advice.try before you buy. I'm sure there are plenty of people on here would state a case for both .its your decision at the end of the day .
  12. Mods are.:60x10 raci ts optics finderscope. Lacerta dual focuser. 2x 130mm machine handwheels.8 hole eyepiece holder (made by me).lazy susan.Slow Motion controls made by me.it's not difficult to do.I would suggest that yo watch a youtube video called zlomotion dobsonion. .I made mine after watching that.only mines a little different and alt control on mines much more stable.very smooth.I cannot stress how much it improves the dob.when tracking or following. It doesn't have the unstable feel as it used to before I modded it.I also sit it on a water butt base it lifts the focuser to eye level not so much back ache. See picture below. It's an old picture. Regards Paul.
  13. Yes agree .when I was looking for a dob I found that the 200p was easier for as I'm retired and didn't want to be struggling to move the scope .I'm glad I did as I can manage it still.and hope to for many years to come.you will mot be disappointed with a 200p.
  14. Wow simply stunning. Better start my xmas list now me thinks ....if only. They look fabulous.
  15. Nearly as much as it cost roughly. Haha jealous really.
