Hello and a warm welcome to the SGL. You are doing the right thing to be going along to your local club. This will give yo a better idea of what’s available. I would not recommend buying a scope from eBay. Look at the adds on here or on Astro buy and sell web site.

  8. Hello and a warm welcome to the SGL. You have to align the finder scope to the telescope. This is best done during daylight. View a distant object through the telescope and centre the object in the eye piece view. Now look through the finder. There should be adjustment screws which enable you to place the distant object in the finder view. I am not familiar with your scope but you should be able to do this. If the image is easily lost when viewing this is often down to the mount and tripod not being very good. A photo of your set up might help us to advise you if this can be improved.

  14. Hello and a warm welcome to the SGL. When you turn the wheels on the focuser does the eye piece move freely in and out of the focuser ? You may have to loosen the locking screws to achieve this.

  16. Nice captures Charl. I still have not managed a single session this year. Permanent grey skies, wind and rain.

  24. Hello and a warm welcome to the SGL. You should be able to see Jupiter and it’s moons using your 9 mm eye piece. This will give you a magnification of just over 60x. A smart phone holder does make taking photos easier
