  1. You told me once Mike about a friend borrowed a GP to mount a 150mm Meade scope I believe.. can't see an eq5 or 6 handling one of those. I have my GP as probably my best astro purchase, on the basis I'd rather sell my scope first, followed by an arm and/or leg.. She's 25 or so years old but has been so well looked after buy all her previous owners (thanks gents).. I've no idea what it's worth now, I know I'm up to about £300 after the tripod build and half pier I bought on top of the head and handset.. to me it's worth alot more than that but but I doubt I would recover that if I decided to sell.. not that I think I'm in negative equity with the improvements but I'd be spending around £1k to match it in todays offerings to get close to what I think my GP is doing.... thinking eq6r and berlebach. Ta Fozzie
  2. Lovely GP mount Mike, looks great despite the antiOCD counterweight.. the only thing I'd love to change on mine is the saddle.. a nice adm saddle would be perfect for this, but I've yet to find a solution to that..
  3. Great looking set up and the candy apple red is a lovely colour for the big frac.. hope you'll be pleased with that for time to come..
  4. That's an 80mm F5 read mounted along side in my photo... so a bit longer on the ed80 but it'll give you some sense of scale.. Ta fozzie
  5. I do.. I cheated though and bought a music speaker/tripod stand bag from Amazon as opposed to an astro branded one... like this.. Just make sure you get the right size... FWIW the starwave is a great scope and very capable acromat.. mines impressed me since I bought it.. Ta fozzie
  6. The mount is more than capable of holding the f11 on the side and a smaller scope on top, you may wish to balance, you'd be offsetting about 5kg for the f11, 2"diagonal, finder and so.. not sure what the weight of an ed80 is but I'd say a 2kg counter would match well.. I didn't feel the need if I'm honest and don't with the f11 hanging on the side the skytee is more than happy.. You will need the peir extension and long cables, but it is a nice set up.. HTH Fozzie
  7. I have to admit, as a full package, tripod and and all I'd have been tempted.. I just spent £100 or so making my own wooden tripod so you can start to break down costing and easily get up to £200 with rational behind it.. I always think the value is what your willing to pay, and these don't come up that often any more so are probably already gaining a "collectors" tag, especially an "R" over the "RS".. I paid £50 plus £10 postage for a goodness knows how old green vixen half piller because I wanted it so that's what it was worth to me, despite numerous new fixing holes being added to it.. let's face it value wise was probably scrap but hey ho... Good luck in the bidding Ta Fozzie
  8. I can appreciate that.. I have a soft spot developing for vixen products.. What about a counterweight system, hangs of a vixen dovetail... add and removed required? ://www.firstlightoptics.com/adm-counterweight-kits/adm-dovetail-counterweight-kit-v-series.html Different option at least.. Ta Fozzie
  9. What about keep the 22LVW and look for a second hand ES24mm 68deg, not as significant outlay as the 24pan, will give you only marginally less of the performance too.. I've not overly struggled with the ER on mine, it's quite a nice EP for the second hand price... although new they seem to have gone up a bit.. you can then take your time deciding if you want to let that 22LVW go.. Just a thought.. Ta Fozzie Hold the phone.... the spec says the ES is 370g... wow.. that cant be right can it, must be made out of neutron star or something!!
  10. I can join in with this... my vixen GP.. won't say much about it other than she's well travelled and well loved.. especially now.. Ta Fozzie
  11. Excellent John... a joy to share your excitement in a fabulous report..
  12. Useful thing to have around last night... seemed alot colder than it actually was...
  13. I've posted my frac before, so technically this isn't new.. but the set up is.. gone is the skytee2 with steel tripod and in came the vixen gp and and homemade sapele mahogany tripod.. very happy with the look of this now.. hopefully the stability is good.. try it out tonight on some clusters and globs I think.. Initial indications are its going to be at least as good as the steel tripod, the half pilller seemed to have a bit of movement, but has tightened up fine.. It's the look you want though! It just says classic frac.. Well to me it does anyway!
  14. Just ordered a 10mm SLV to complete the set from 5mm to 25mm.. Will the 10mm Delos survive????

  15. That's exactly my thoughts with the SLV too.. Great set of EP's
  16. Interesting this canon 750d will native focus with my 200p newt.. regular focuser too... thought that was not probable but don't mind if I do!

have you tried it with a CC ?, I had too adjust my primery up the tube nearly as far as it would go to get enough back focus with my 1200d.  charl.

I've not got a CC charl, never really had toone much need for one as it never really bothered me visually... I expect that will take my focus off.. need to see what the results are like with the 200p and the moon...

  17. I was just wondering how the road trip had gone Jules, sounds like it might be all worth while... Looking forward to your thoughts on this when you get it under some clear sky's.. Hopeful his scope will take you a new level with the observing and lunar imaging!
  18. Sure it's clear.. but even at 112x the moon is dancing all over the place.. box of frogs! Been up since 3:30 shooting frames, it'll take me 3 days to process it all!

3.30am that's hardcore and dedication mate, I had a few hours from 8pm till about 10.30pm trying my new little newt, bagged the flame and o-neb, but boy it was cold and I had double thermals on. I look forward to your pics of the box of frogs.  charl.

Thanks Charl, I was called mad at the time.. but really when do you get the opportunity working 7 till 7, with a youngster and the like.. I've got PiPP working through the first 900 frames for me tonight, then im going to try a mosaic from 2 panes around 400 each... then I took some avi of Clavius... see what I get out of it!

  19. Showing frames through the soup! Well I'm desperate, why else would I.. just for laughs I'll post what I get with the 433 frames on the moon.

      Ahem.... shooting not showing!

  20. Congratulations to Joe12345 a worthy winner, most expertly chosen..! Always nice when somebody see's a bit of potential in you isn't it!
  21. Not sure you mods would be able to get out of it that easily Jules... Sounds like a course of intensive training if you ask me... but you do get a badge to sow into your beany hats or swimming trunks upon passing so everyone can see the Statue of the position.. Some outrageous images in this thread, and a belter of an original idea from @Stu who I must say, as im aware he hasn't picked a winner for today, comes across a thoroughly good egg and vestibule of never ending knowledge, quick witted and generous, not to mention dreamily good looking... a mans man if you would, someone to buy a pint with out a shadow of a doubt...... Oh and he's my entry.. again it a transit, but it's not bad... picked up a part of a 22deg halo on it to, which I was pleased with. Ta Fozzie
  22. Thanks, Mark.. that would be good to know.. I think it's the price that made them sound attractive in that sense.. you can't get more grab n go as a pair of bins.. but like Mr Lock has said some DIY filters on a pair of 10x50's would cost about the same.. if not a bit less.. Still someone at Lunt thought there was a market for these.. ta Fozzie
  23. Thanks Gents, valued imput as ever.. I was thinking more for airplane travel, for those fleeting moments on holiday when you've not got a child pulling at your leg or another half nattering away in your ear drums.... Probably wont have use for a pair in hindsight. ta Fozzie
  24. Yeah I thought that myself, but I then I thought I'm sure someone on here.. trying to think who....... has the larger 8x32mm pair and I'm not sure if he said they weren't too bad..? Thanks Peter, I guess this is going to be similar scale to a decent 50mm finder view isn't it... so probably not that practical.. Worth a thought though.. Thanks Gents Fozzie
