  8. 5 more days of snow to go... at least its warm, -20c seems to be the minimum for now.

    1. scarp15

      scarp15

Yet more snow Gerry, expect that you will be continuing to ploughing your road access, unless a snowmobile has become the only means of getting around. Perhaps a settled period of clear skies will follow. Strengthening winds and snow forecast here for at least northern UK.

      Pig

The daytime was very sunny & pleasant Gerry and I was hoping to catch the planet alignment tonight, but alas, the clouds arrived just as work was over :happy7:

  11. The moon is taking 435x with the Zeiss zoom/VIP and the shroud lifted half up. Excellent seeing and just learning what this scope likes...

    1. Pig

      Pig

Nice one Gerry. I love the close ups of the lunar surface as all kinds of detail becomes apparent :-) are you seeing the 3D effect ?

    2. jetstream

      jetstream

Shaun the detail and 3d around Copernicus is simply amazing, a few hours were spent along the terminator. The seeing has allowed some very sharp high mag viewing and Sirius is easily split at 101x... The orthos/VIP did a great job jousting with the zoom for first place. Trying to stay up for Jupiter.....

    3. Pig

      Pig

It all sounds pretty fantastic Gerry :-)

  12. Success! truss poles cut and my 2 widefields now focus easily :)

  16. 1am and there is a fantastic Northern Lights show across the whole sky. One of the best Auroras yet.

    1. xtreemchaos

      xtreemchaos

      did you get any images?

    2. Moon-Watcher

      Moon-Watcher

      where abouts are you?

    3. Gutross

      Gutross

one of my greatest memories of Auroras was when i was 14-15, my mother woke me up to see the entire sky lit up, as we were watching the show it became very intense. the only spot of sky not touched by the aurora was directly above and in the shape of a trumpetting angel. the image has stuck with me for almost 20 years and i suspect it will for a great deal longer

  17. The Zeiss zoom works very well, Saturn was VG with it and VIP. Solar Ha is also excellent with this EP , so far great results all round :)

    1. Pig

      Pig

Excellent news Gerry :-) Is the field stop of the Zeiss a good match for the Quark ?

    2. jetstream

      jetstream

Yes, the largest for the Zeiss is about 19.5mm, the Quark 22mm or so. This eyepiece works very well for Ha, but more time is needed for in depth comparisons. The eyerelief it tighter than LZ it seems though, we'll see how it does with the reducer- preliminary results with it are good...

    3. Pig

      Pig

Well that is a very promising start :-)

  18. Stunning Ha views in the Quark, SW120ED giving photo like views

      Luke

The Quark rocks in the SW ED100 and ED120 :D

    3. jetstream

      jetstream

Absolutely Luke :) I had the mag dialed in for a 3d, fiery liquid like view... the proms showed fine thread filaments twisting though and off them. I didn't know visual Ha could be so good actually...

  19. I'm buying an SLV and a box of kleenex's for when I start to cry

    1. michael.h.f.wilkinson

      michael.h.f.wilkinson

SLVs are no reason to cry

    2. jetstream

      jetstream

That's the problem... I may cry if they outperform some of my other EP's lol!

    3. Pig

      Pig

LoL I don't think you will be disappointed with them Gerry.. Very good eyepieces

  20. very pleased with the 10BCO & 7mm KK ortho on Jupiter, excellent views
