  1. You are right, an accurate home position does assist accurate star alignment as does an accurate polar alignment. See this video on how to get an accurate home position, it’s worth the effort to get it right https://youtu.be/4fO6hyYtPwM Also an illuminated reticle eyepiece is a good idea for accurate centering of the star
  2. Go to the utilities menu on the handset and there is a sub menu for for polar scope illuminating, you can adjust brightness from there
  3. Hi all, this isn’t for me, it’s for a friend so I don’t know any details of the problem. He has asked me if I know of any one who repairs/collimates binoculars. If anyone can recommend a company in the Uk, preferably North West England it would be appreciated Thanks
  4. I use it when setting up in daytime, gets pretty close to the NCP so only requires tweaking when Polaris appears, big timesaver.
  5. To polar align without Polaris all you need is the PS Align Pro app. This uses GPS, auto time and date to pinpoint the NCP. By placing your phone on the dovetail the app uses a compass like bubble graphic to polar align by you adjusting the alt/az bolts, it is very easy and more than accurate for visual. There is no requirement to see Polaris
  6. The orange filter states that it assists in detecting dust storms on Mars.....I find that very hard to believe. Be wary of low priced items that promise much, an unfortunate aspect of this hobby is that for quality you need to dig deep 😥
  7. Yeh, I have looked at them in the past but they are an expensive solution!!!......however I do need a new illuminated eyepiece for star alignment.....
  8. During an observation session recently I viewed a number of double and triple stars ✨ I realized that I had no way of recording the separation between stars, particularly when changing magnification. Anyone use an accurate method of measuring the separation???
  9. Worthwhile sacrifice if it keeps him interested........shame though, it’s a lovely lamp 😄
  10. I’m afraid I agree with Louis, I have looked in the past and the cost of a case for a SW 150 case is more than the scope
  11. Nice sketch, certainly inspired me to go hunting for those doubles, 2 for the price of one....nice
  12. Great report, the Double Cluster is indeed amazing and you picked the exact right focal length for it, my Celestron 32mm Plossl frames the double cluster perfectly
  13. https://www.firstlightoptics.com/telegizmos-telescope-covers/telegizmos-365-scope-cover-for-10-12-f5-eq-mounted-newtonians.html This is the one I think
  14. These are the only covers I would trust. I leave my scope and mount outside under one of these with no Ill effects https://www.firstlightoptics.com/telegizmos-telescope-covers.html
  15. Needs framing and putting on the wall!!
  16. Great report, sounds like you pushed the envelope under challenging conditions. I now keep a journal recording all my sessions. You can record all the intricate details of your observations without having to rely on memory and it focuses your mind, like revision did at school
  17. It is not straightforward to install, the instructions are woeful, when you come to do it, refer to this thread
  18. I leave mine set up outside under a Telegizmos 365 cover, no issues whatsoever
  19. I don’t think a 200PDS is to heavy for an EQ5, I used that setup for a couple of years.....however, f you have the dosh, why not future proof and upgrade the mount to an EQ6-R-Pro, that way you can keep the light bucket and go even bigger/heavier in the future
