  1. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this before
  2. Nicely done, excellent sketches. This is something I really wish I had a talent for, I make some very basic sketches in my recording log, a great way of recording your observations but I wish I had the artistic bent needed to capture details
  3. I recently purchased the 17.5mm and loved the immersive experience it gave....as a result.....I’ve got the 12.5 and the 4.5 on the way from FLO....don’t tell my wife!!!
  4. As much as I hate to reply to a Utd fan 😀 It certainly sounds like the nebula, it’s unmistakable when you see it, unlike anything else you’ll see visually
  5. Nice report. The nights observing plan rarely comes off in its entirety. +1 for M67. Probably the most beautiful open cluster I've seen. At x40 mag, almost globular. at x 83 mag numerous bright stars fill the whole field of view with thousands of unresolved stars in the background.
  6. I do exactly the same, my sketches are like a two year old did them but doing them force’s you to look harder and longer. Makes the whole experience more satisfying......but no one else will ever see my artwork!!
  7. Nice report Ciaran.....let’s see the sketch then....... 😀
  8. Nice image, stars appear sharp and and the galaxy and nebula show nice details when you zoom in, you could crop them into two nice photos as well . A green tinge yes, but doesn’t take away any enjoyment
  9. Tegmine is beautiful, spent some time with it last week but I was only able to split it to a double Though I don’t think I realized it was a triple at the time so didn’t max the magnification...damn and blast!!..there will be other attempts
  10. I don’t bother with color filters, they are too specific to particular objects and so, in my opinion, not good value for money. i do believe in filters though, some people don’t like them, it’s a matter of personal choice I think. I have the Baader Moon and Skyglow filter to assist with light pollution and the Astronomik O111 and UHC for nebula observing. I also have a Baader Contrast Booster for planets. I haven’t used this yet, and some people don’t think it’s useful, again it’s personal choice. I would suggest that for nebula a filter is essential but I suppose it depends on your level of light pollution and other factors particular to you......and yes, for Astro photography you need to be accurately polar aligned
  11. SkySafari has it called Wanderer as well. Added to my list for the next dark night. I love globs!! Even the fuzzy ones!!
  12. Thanks Nick, that’s really useful
  13. So last night, the 6th, the moon was nearly full and high in the sky through the night which meant the only objects really possible from already light polluted skies were double stars. Now, I've done the doubles stored in the synscan to death so, given that star hopping is virtually impossible under Bortle 6 skies and that the moon was shining away I decided to have a go using the "User Object" function in the handset. I've never used this before, it's always scared me, I've thought that it will be over complicated but I was very wrong, it's really easy. For those that have never tried it, it is found under the "object" menu and it simply asks you to enter the coordinates of an object. I entered coordinates taken from the SkySafari app and on EVERY occasion the mount slewed to the object, placing it very near to the centre of the FOV, I was amazed!! It appeared to be more accurate than the pre stored objects! As a result some of these doubles are objects I wouldn't normally think of. First off - 12 Lyncis. A beautiful triple star system with the A & B component very close to each other, so close I could only split them at x250 mag. A and B are bright white stars of similar size and C is further away, much dimmer, smaller and with an orange hue to it......a stunning triple, well worth a look. HR4893 - A nice double easily split at x58 mag. Two white stars of equal size and brightness. Both appeared to me to offer a hint of blue. Next - 40 and 41 Draconis. Another easy split at x58 mag. Followed by - Psi Draconis (AKA Dziban). Another nice double easily split at x58 mag. The primary is slightly bigger than the secondary which was blueish and dimmer. I finished the night with Kappa 1 Bootis and Kappa 2 Bootis (AKA Asellus Tertius). Another easy split with the best view at x125 mag. A large white primary with a smaller, dimmer and bluish companion.....very nice. All in all, a very satisfying couple of hours and in case you didn't notice, I was really impressed with the user object function. Stay safe everyone
  14. So you don’t like the idea of 6 yellow pouches around your waist?? Could be quite fetching....
  15. I can’t imagine ever using it so it will stay in the box
  16. Hi all as a result of advice on this forum and a bit of research, I’ve just taken delivery of a 17.5mm Morpheus eyepiece and what a well presented eyepiece it is!! One question though.. can anyone tell me what is the little steel object in the box, looks like a little tab like object, what is it’s purpose? It’s not mentioned in the enclosed booklet
  17. Hi and welcome to SGL I don’t do Astro photography, only visual but even if I did the advice would be the same. Start with visual, at least one, maybe 2 full winters. This will teach you the skies, the conditions required and how everything works. To do this, you won’t go wrong with the SW 150mm dob (or the 200mm if you prefer). A lot of people jump into AP, spend a shed full of money (astronomy is already expensive and AP can cost a whole lot more!!) and quickly lose interest because they didn’t put in the ground work by learning the basics
  18. Agreed....unfortunately this is a hobby, more than any other, that lives up to the old adage “you get what you pay for”
  19. Nice report. I had a go at Tegmine the other night but could only resolve it to a double at x250 mag. I gave up there but maybe I should have gone further....
  20. Hmmm you’ve all just made my quandary worse!! 😀😀 I have considered the Morpheus before . I’m guessing though that the superior contrast may assist in light polluted skies and the field of view advantage is obvious
  21. I have the Mark 111 Baader Hyperion Zoom. I love this eyepiece and it’s probably In my 200PDS more than any other. That got me thinking as to how good would the actual independent Hyperions be so I’m looking at buying the set, with the case as sold by FLO. I don’t think I would normally consider this, it would normally just stay on my wish list but the current crisis means I am managing to save a lot of money (don’t get me wrong, I would much rather times were normal with no virus!!) My question is...is this a worthwhile purchase? Is there a significant improvement over the zoom, enough to warrant the over £600 cost??... Opinions please
  22. What do you mean by alignment??...The EQ5 needs to be polar aligned in order to track objects and it needs to be star aligned for the synscan GoTo to find objects, so yes, it needs to be aligned in both ways
