I was have clear skies last night, around 11pm treated to the comets anyway this lasted i say about half an hour, and i would say that 100 per hour was somewhat limited it was 200 per hour. Teased out by clear sky and Jupiter

Jupiter showing itself through my front window teased me outside. I thought I could see the Seven Sisters too from my sitting room (low lights on) and once outside confirmed it was - 1st time this year. Caught a couple of 'shooting stars' - wonder if they where Perseids? Clearest night I've seen this Summer, I'm sure their will be a few out having a good one this morning. Will pop back out for another 1/2 hour if the clouds haven't moved in.

Andromeda Finally Observed.

Something I've been trying to do for a while now. Thanks to two really clear nights this weekend, I finally managed to find Andromeda in the scope. Just a smudge, but it still feels like an achievement, as its the first Galaxy I've spotted through my scope. I realise I also need to be quick off the mark adjusting the focus for my camera, once i've spotted something with my 20mm lens. I've now marked the focuser with felt pen, which speeds up camera focusing immensly. Neil

Not just the scope

When I got my latest telescope some months back, I didnt think for a minute that I'd have bought half the things that I have. Am very pleased with the scope I got and Deneb in particular has made it worthwhile in my opinion. I realise there's more to it than that, and am really looking forward to long winter nights enthralled by Jupiter and the Galillean moons. Andromeda is another DSO spectacular to look forward to. Attempted to see The Lagoona Nebula, got The Dumbbell Nebula instead

I suppose I should have read the text before going out, in Turn Left at Orion it says to find the "Teapot", but having no clue where this was (even from the diagram) I was lost from the start! I looked downwards from Altair but couldn't see anything like in the diagrams so decided to switch targets to The Dumbbell Nebula. This I managed with relative ease, I didn't have my iPad or SkyScout with me and there were no co-ordinates so I relied entirely on visual star hopping, I found the arrow of Sa

Hi all waited up for jupiter so i could try Castrator software out as with have in the dob and it fly in all over the placeon the screen,this sofware sorts that out and makes registax catch all the frames i dropped one as i shot this all in 60 fps which was rubbish ,with the spc900,any way heres a link for it have a look http://www.astrokraai.nl/castrator.php it works ok theres no point me going any more into it ,as am not up to speed with it my self but its fool proof and very easy to use clo
