M51, Whirlpool Galaxy

A total of 5.7 hours on the Whirlpool Galaxy and "My God, it's full off... background galaxies".

I've approximately followed the same recepy as with the Leo Triplet. Although you wouldn't call 5.7 hours a short exposure time, it's too short to get the same smooth background and "wow-factor" as with 8 hours. Conclusion: 5.7 hours is pretty good; 8.0 hours is nearly perfect.

For those who are interested, I've labeled the (background) galaxies that I could identify with Cartes du Ciel. It seems you can reach mag. 21 with a 6 inch scope on a dark site.

Thanks for watching.
