IC 342 and PK158+17.1

Hi folks,

now I am going to check out the limits of my equipment (Pentax75 and Moravian G2-8300FW).

And so I did these two objects:

IC 342 is a weak but large galaxy in Camelopardalis. It is near the galactic equator where dust obscuration makes it a difficult object.

15x600s for L, 4x600s for R and G and 3x600s for B.

And PK158+17.1 is a planetary nebula in Lynx. A very, very weak object. But it is huge, diameter 2/3 of full moon!

Ha filter, 14x900s

Not a stunner . But I got it. Observers with big Dobsonians can start an effort to capture it.

Wehner, these images are stunning. The Perek-Kahoutek planetary is my favourite, a real celestial ghost and a rare object. I will go hunting for that on a dark night!

Really very nice Werner!

It's a good example to beginners, showing you don't need as big a scope as you can afford to produce top class images, a high quality smaller scope can be superior.

Superb images Werner, IC 342 reminds me of NGC 6946. That's a very faint planetary, never seen that before but definitely one for my list.

I also had never heard of that planetary. I've read up on it now, apparently it's also known as "Sh 2-216" it's the closest planetary nebula to us at a distance of 'only' 390 lightyears.
