Okay, I’m not a geek, honest but….

I sat my three year old down this weekend so that he could watch Star Wars for the first time (the proper 1977 one, not the new “stuff”)

Anyway, I was a little surprised to see the plough asterism in the night sky – when the Jawa’s are driving around in their big vehicle.

So much for a galaxy far, far away….You need not travel from one side of the universe to the other after all. You can see the same set stars from Lewisham High Street! I feel cheated and conned!

Gonna have to go look ... I think it was filmed somewhere in North African (I can't remember the exact location)... and I don't think the technology of the time would have easily supported swapping the starscapes out

i would prefer to think that given the size of the universe there is a galaxy far far away where the view from one planet shows an asterism similar to the plough

Yes, I believe so. I'm sure when I went to Tunisia many years ago they ran tours out into the Sahara to see where Star Wars was filmed.

Yes it is Tunisia on the edge of the Sahara. I went on one of the tours as a child. It is supposed to be the planet of Tatooine.

I vaguely remember that now but never took much notice as to what the constellation was before. Time to dig out the box set indeed.
