Hello All,

Another beginner who has lots of current thoughts about becoming the next Brian Cox or more likely Dara O'Briain.

Have been surfing far too many Astro websites in the last couple of weeks, of course looking for a scope, but think Im gonna let all this new knowledge sink in and stick with my 10X42's just for now and learn some more.

If you have any Golden advice, please let me in on it.

Nice to meet you all.

Hi Marty and welcome to SGL :)

You'd be welcome to join our forum social group East Mids Stargazers and come and have a natter and look through a few scopes when we next meet. Usually a Saturday night at Sawley just off J24 M1. Click the link in my signature for further details (or choose Communities then Social Groups at top of page) :)

Thanks for the warm welcome.

On advice posted in the forum I did purchase Turn left at Orion.

I Have also been talking with my 8 year old boy about the night sky, who seems very interested, as everything is pretty amazing to him at the moment.

Im hoping between the 2 of us we can convince the lady of the house that the future purchase of a telescope is educational as well as an interesting thing to do, and worth the outlay. Please feel free to offer any advice on how to get over this hurdle.

Mi Martyh and welcome to the forum.

I would take up certainly accept brantuk's invitation of participating in an observation evening - invaluable, as there is nothing to compare than actually getting up close to the kit, asking about set up times, cooling times, eyepieces and is the best research you can do.

My only strategic approach regarding the lady of the house is to get her to go along with you to have a look through the scopes and see if she can be persuaded to take up the interest - that way she would be buying herself the scope that you and your son would like!:):D

Clear skies

Going along to a meet seems to be a very good idea to me. Im as much interested to find out what keeps you guys looking up in the night sky for year after year, as well as the techie stuff.

Im afraid the wife doesnt venture into cold, dark places willingly, so only subtle tactics will suffice.
