M31

My first go at M31, managed a couple of hours last night, the first real clear skies I have had for ages, I went back to my trusty Modded Canon 1000D for this as I knew I would be time limited due to incoming clouds and snow and it is easier to set up and run.

Details 65x2min subs at ISO800, flats, darks and bias frames applied.

Scope 190Mak Newt at F5.3 guided with QHY5/finderscope with PHD

Stacked in DSS and tweaked in PS.

Framing is rubbish and result well....sigh.... but first pic in yonks.

I'd be chugged to bits with that. I've seen a few M31s now that have been captured using lots and lots of 2 min subs at ISO 800, is that because any longer would wash it out?

Thanks everyone for your comments, in answer to the above I did try some 4 min subs but they washed out.

BTW I shouild have mentioned that although I have some light pollution I no longer use any form of filtering, not even a IR filter as I have removed it from the camera in the mod.

I have found that I need far less sub times now compared to when I used an IR/LP combined filter and feel that needing less time on target is a better compromise.
