Two things come to mind for 101010. In binary, it's 42, so a good day for some Douglas Adams. And on the computer front, the latest version of Ubuntu is released today so a good time to upgrade.

What, you don't all run Ubuntu? Just me? Oh.

I've lost track of Ubuntu versions ... is this Lousy Llama, Minging Mongoose or Nutty Narwahl?

Seriously, though, other versions of linux are available, and I honestly doubt the sanity of anyone who installs any computer software within three months of its official release date. Give it time to "mature" ... or, at any rate, lose some of the more catastrophic bugs.

Actually, I've been running the latest Ubuntu version for the past couple of weeks and have found no bugs at all. I'd agree, in general, it's best to let software settle down, but in this case my experience has been all good. WHich is nice.

M42 would be nice, it appears to be a good sized target for the Canon 7D and 600mm lens. It would be a cracking first light for the new system but it will have to be on the 11th as it is only just visible at midnight tonight.

Hartley for me too - tried a few times lately but tonight's the night - or I don't go to bed!!

I'd also like to see if I can see the Crab Nebula in my 12" dob and once I see Hartley, have a go at M110 which I've never seen either yet.

You sound just like me lol, I've got an NEQ6 Pro mount, ST80, QHY5 guidecam, EQ-Direct and the Canon 7D with Canon 600mm f4L lens to set up for the very first time. It could be a long night!

Well its finally cleared here at last, not a cloud in the sky. I think tonight is going to be M31, although I do fancy trying my hand at Hartley.
