Amazingly clear night but....

Never seen a night so clear and cold (only started in May this year).

But and a massive nut.

The moon is like a massive spotlight making imaging almost impossible.

Got perfect guiding, all set perfectly, just the massive moon shining like a 1million watt nextdoor floodlight

Grrrrr.....

I know - I was just reading in the moonlight! At least the thing I was reading was a guide to sights on the moon. It was so bright I just gave up trying to see anything else and did some crater scanning. Naked eye magnitude was only about 2.8 from my garden, so it was either that or waste this clear night, and there was no way I was going to do that after waiting so long for one!

For months now for me, it's been clouds or moon. It's a conspiracy I tell you!

Still: got to play with my new mak. Even with it being a such full moon, it looked pretty awesome.

I'm on my second 3 hour target already, narrowband only though the moon is amazingly bright

It is pretty damn clear, i can even see the stars from here in London!

Yup - and once again I have no transport so cant even take the scope out to see the moon I swear I am going to take up crochet or needlepoint.

Scope is setup in the garden, now going to bed. Alarm set for 4.30am and hopefully a cloudless, moonless and windless morning sky awaits me. Just under 2 hours of observing winter constellations before the dreaded 6.45 commute on the train to work.

Just come in, also gave up with imaging and havn't got a moon filter yet so very difficult to do any observation! Had an enjoyable hour splitting a few double stars instead:D

You need a 7nm Ha filter mate

I'm using the time to refine my alignment ala drift method. Been at it all night, took me ages just to wrap my head around it.....still at it...

I've got about 17gb of avi files from the moon last night, hopefully they are of decent quality and I can start putting a mosaic together this evening. I've not tried lunar imaging with the webcam before, and I certainly didn't go out with the plan of doing all that!

It's amazing how fast the gigs of data soon add up...You should get a great result with all that data..Be sure to post the results..

I have had only a handfull of clear nights in the past 3 or so months, and all have been around the full moon so imaging has been on hold.
