The Fluorite Floosies?

Recommended Posts

Nice collection.

To add some perspective, I feel that a coke soft drink (a 330ml) or a one liter bottle would be quite helpful in giving a feel of scale?

Cheers,

NF

Oh, and I came up with names for all the fluorite scopes, just because it seems to be the thing to do!

FS-60Q       Freddie

FC-76DC    Felicity

FC-100DC  Geoffrey

Genesis       Phil

Vixen           Florence

FS-128        Phyllis

There’s some form of twisted logic behind each one which may or may not be obvious/guessable 🤪. It just means two of my floosies are boys!

Three by my my count. Phil, Geoffrey and Freddie. How long did it take you to amass your collection Stu?

Shows how good my maths is, doesn’t it! 🤣🤣

I’ve been observing for about 23 years and it has built up over that time, although none of these scopes are originals. The FC100DC may well be one of the longest owned, bought from new. The others come and go although most of the ones I have now are quite ‘sticky’! Phil and Florence don’t get much use but they are both excellent examples and would be very hard to replace.

How many people have picked up good deals due to wife/partner requesting telescope fleet reduction in number?

Well you can't really argue you have too many scopes if you only have the one.

If something new comes along, its a 'society scope'

Like your SXP2. (I have my own mount : a DM6) The Vixen is a 'society mount' that i'm looking after for a while.....😉

I could give Florence a good home?

Nice try 😉 Florence is a keeper I’m afraid. Actually most of them are. The silly thing is, I could sell the Telementor for example but in the grand scheme of things it’s not a huge amount of money and it takes up little space. That’s why I end up keeping them!

I only have one myself, I rarely if ever have two.

If there are two scopes in my house it means one hasn't sold yet.

But if owning lots of scopes floats your boat, go sailing I say.

Oh I see....

Sorry, it takes me a bit of time to work stuff like that out, slow on the uptake...

I thought you where quoted 12-18 months for a SXP2 to turn up.

Since then it's had

  • A new Phenolic tube
  • Custom printed rings
  • and I need a 1 kg weight o balance it on an AZ100, roll on the Y saddle..

Note: I actual rate the performance of the printed rings as better then the Starlight rings I have on another scope, lighter (100 grams each) and better thermally than metal..

I was thinking about someone who has every AP up to 130 mm, most Takahashi flat field APO's made, the list goes on...

Can I suggest ‘Liz’ as a name for your 16”Truss Stu?

I can imagine such a big scope nearly wrecked the Stu family economy.

🤣🤣 Actually that honour goes to the LZOS, the 16” was something of a bargain really.

Wow what an amazing lineup of refractors! I must admit, from an esthetic POV it’s the Vixen that catches my eye the most. I’m blown away at how close it is in size to the 128 yet it’s a 102, I feel it would give my 102 some stiff competition based on it’s appearance, alone.
