  1. The irony of those last two posts is frankly staggering. Anyway….
  2. Like a million times each. Out of a sense of fair play shouldn’t this thread be flooded with people who want to ignore the original post title and hijack the thread to talk about the virtues of their TEC/Stellavue/Borg/Televue etc?
  3. Always. Of course in the months previous to finally making up one’s mind you’re almost tripping up over your scope/eyepiece/mount of choice
  4. Which is what attracted me to the TV102, a focal length of 8.6 with a well figured doublet objective. As far as I can tell it’s the only out and out planetary telescope TeleVue made 🔭
  5. Indeed. I don’t know if it’s true, but I understand that only 900 102’s were made and as one would expect the majority remain in the US. There can’t be too many survivors in the UK. I imagine the same could be said for your Vixen. I still haven’t seen one for sale anywhere.
  6. If I could have found one I would have bought it. As rare as hen’s teeth as far as I can tell, mind you getting hold of a TV102 wasn’t easy, I was actively searching for one for a few years before I found mine. I won’t be selling it.
  7. Indeed. I’m proper old school I am afraid, no wires for me. I learned the night sky with a star map and a red touch.
  8. Excellent eyepieces for the money. I had a set perhaps 13 or 14 years ago, no complaints apart from the annoying habit of eyecups coming loose from time to time
  9. That’s what car boots are for. Obviously meant to be. Another 200 quid gets you an AZ4 delivered
  10. Look here: https://www.astrobuysell.com/uk/propview.php?view=206234 a bargain…
  11. AZ4 mounts are excellent inexpensive and unrated for reasons which escape me. The steel legged on is rock solid with a 4 inch fl7 refractor which is the turn out I would buy in your position. A fpl 51 4 inch refractor and an AZ4 is perfect for you price bracket and could last a lifetime
  12. Embarrassingly I just had another look, I couldn’t find it, even with a 🔦 That last blow blower session was apparently more successful than I anticipated
  13. It’s got a small scratch from a previous owner (came with my TV102) and looks like a poorly fitted bino. As it happens binos don’t work with a 102 so they’re careless was in vain in any case. It makes absolutely zero difference to the views of course.
  14. I don’t seem be able to leave a reply as a quote. Thanks John, it absolutely does have a dielectric coating. Never mind, just an idea.
  15. Hi John I was thinking of my elderly 2 inch Everbright. I only use refractors
  16. Just out of curiosity, has anyone ever had a diagonal re-silvered and if you have who would undertake such a thing?
  17. Some wide field, but not all by any means. I used ES 2 inch eyepieces without issue at the time.
  18. WO diagonals in either format will serve you well. Excellent build quality too and not huge money either
