Stellarium... I havent seen this Planetarium software for years, to be honest, I think I played with the very first release version and never looked at it since.... staying initially WinStars 2 with years ago, than moving onto Starry Night Pro Plus 6 on PC and 7 on Mac, and Starwalk and Star Map Pro on iOS.... looking at the features on Stellarium, perhaps it's time to give it another go....

@alexwolf

Have you considered updating Stellarium catalog?

Some time ago I tried using information from Stellarium, notably, B-V color index of stars to do color calibration, and concluded that it is quite wrong.

Here is a very good catalog that I was recommended, that has star temperature and other information from Gaia DR2 (along other sources):

https://archive.stsci.edu/prepds/atlas-refcat2/

Maybe you could do simple update (star matching by position and then extracting information for update of Stellarium catalogs)?

Thanks for the new Stellarium. Stellarium rules!

I turned on the info for rise/transit/set. Three lines are added to the info section at top-left. I can't read them though. The font for these lines is black.

Is there a setting I can apply to solve this?

Damn! it's a bug :(

Please disable formatting output or enable displaying sidereal time also.

P.S. I've fixed it in master

Yes, in perspective

For example? Why B-V in Stellarium (by fact from Tycho-2, HIP & XHIP) "is quite wrong"? How you convert data from various photometric systems?

It's really not "simple" :)

BTW patches and contributors welcome ;)

I tried doing some color calibration, and took B-V index from Stellarium and got quite strange results, then I searched B-V index for selected stars in other sources and got different values.

For two stars that Stellarium reported being B-V of 0.48 (so should be of same color), other sources gave distinctly different values.

I've written in about it in a separate thread, let me find that for you.

Here it is:

By the way, if I would like to add the extra data files into Stellarium, how should I process with the installation ? with Wiondows 10 64BIT.

F4 -> Extras tab -> Star catalog updates
