Hello from Cornwall

Hi from a fairly dark part of SE Cornwall. I got my first telescope a, Skywatcher Startravel 80 on an EQ1 mount, a few weeks ago as a gift from my other half. We had some clear skies so we looked at the moon, then Jupiter and its moons, then I learned how to use the setting circles and found M31. Wow, another galaxy! Only a little smudge in my little scope, but wow! Then I looked up and saw the milky way for the first time. Wow again... how come I never noticed THAT before.

Since those first few clear nights, it's been cloudy so I've been tweaking the tripod and mount so it's a bit smoother and less wobbly, and reading loads of stuff online and in books. Bring on those clear skies...

Iused to live in Cornwall on the Roseland - how I miss the dark skies!

I now live in Devon where I am plagued by car headlights and the rosy glow of Exeter.

I love Cornwall, was there a few weeks ago. I've never seen the Orion Nebula look so good when viewing Kingsand near Plymouth. I'm very jealous of your location!

Thanks everyone for your replies. I'm really starting to appreciate how good the night sky can be here. Just open the back door and there it all is! When it's not cloudy of course.

Errr... I'm scarred to ask... what's a nagler...?

Welcome to SGL.

A Nagler is a type of eyepiece....very nice and costs about the same, if not more, than your telescope!
