2017.03.06 19.17 Ptolemaeus, Alphonsus, Alpetragius, Arzachel mosaic

After a quick Venus run and the clouds obscuring that part of the sky, I thought I would have a go at the moon as it was still clear there.

The first image is a 3 pane mosaic of the craters  Ptolemaeus, Alphonsus, Alpetragius, Arzachel. The second is a single image of Aristillus. The bottom image is also a single image of Archimedes.

I picked these particular craters as they are all littered with smaller craterlets, I also imaged Plato as well (a little disappointing).

The usual set up C9.25/Asi120mm, with a x1.8 Barlow and 642 filter. Stacked in A/S2 and stitched in ICE.

Wonderful images. Alpetragius with its weird central dome catches the light just right. It's like someone dropped a ball in it.

It is an easy crater to ignore with the bigger more showy craters nearby. The central peak is a fascinating feature, I was delighted how well it showed up. When I was capturing Alpetragius, Arzachel I made sure that it was nicely framed as it looked so interesting.

A cracking set of images Pete. A planetary camera is next on my list, your images are a great advert for the ASI120MM!
