Your wife told you that the location would not be good for observing?. What does that tell you?. She wanted a few days away with you, and no you running off at all hours to observe.

I wouldn't have run off at all hours... just the dark ones.. and besides I could have hatched a devious plan to ply her with gin and tonic (£10 a throw by the way... robbing hoteliers ) so she fell a sleep leaving me to my own devices, then I'd have had no choice but to take part in a bit of casual observing!

Getting ones wife drunk in a hotel normally has a different agenda I think....

You would think.. but throw into the equation a 6month old in a travel cot at the end of the bed and the safest thing to mount is definitely a telescope!

I would always bring the bins along "just to enjoy the landscape" Honest! I even enjoy the landscape at night.
