I did a search on this forum but couldn't find out whether anyone has posted this already, so sorry if this is a repeat.

unless you have a permanent obs that can handle this sort of scope it's a step or two too far I think

It's not just the permanent obs, it's the heavy manufacturing needed to build a dob structure for that thing.  I just don't have the tools....

The 30 inch at The Astronomy Centre is currently under refurbishment.   When Peter* has finished it, it wlll be stored in a horizontal shelter and run out on rails onto it's observing station.  I'm not sure when it will be completed but anyone can come up and try it out on a suitable Saturday night.  Probably best to contact Peter first though to make sure it is operational before you travel.

The central hole is part of the primary mirror mounting system.

Fabulous, but too big for me....the mirror alone wont fit through a standard doorway !!!!
