M78, Horse and Flame.

Geoffrey did the Horse and Flame image with us last year and, with another guest, Sarah, we all added M78 last night. The mosaic is really just an afterthought but when we saw we could join them we went for it. Both the Horsehead itself, NGC2023 and the brighter parts of M78 have had an infusion of data from Yves' 14 inch ODK to tighten up the resolution on these nice bits. It shows on the fullsize. There's the tip of Barnard's Loop for good measure. Matching the images was tricky but with patience you can get there in the end.

Horse, Tak FSQ85ED/Atik 4000 mono HaLRGB.

M78 panel, Tak FSQ106N/Atik 11000. Mild interference from the moon for the M78 data.

Incredible scale and wonderful detail here - certain it was a great deal of work to match and stitch these images, but the end result is amazing.    Hope one day you can capture the data to fill in the gaps, just to frame these beauties in context.
